Reviews - Winchell's
Reviews summary
Open 24/7, this Winchell’s blends a rotating, seasonal roster of donuts with standout bagels and toasted sandwiches, making it a go-to for late-night cravings and quick breakfasts. Friendly, cheerful staff and reliable takeout add convenience, but guests report inconsistent freshness and shrinking portions amid rising prices. When fresh, donuts are fluffy and bagels excellent; at other times items can be stale—expect great late-night options with occasional quality dips.

What Anonym dislikes about Winchell's:
Whenever I visit this place, I usually grab a half dozen donuts for $9.99. Although their prices have gone up since 2021, I’ve noticed that this trend is common across all donut shops in San Diego. They feature a rotating selection of donuts. In March 2023, I sampled the wild cherry frosted donut and the vanilla donut with Oreo crumbs on top. The bagels and donuts at this place are incredible! The garlic bagel is truly the highlight. From my experience, this spot is the best of all the shops I’ve tried. They also offer a wonderful variety of donuts!
The staff here is fantastic—always friendly and cheerful. This is my favorite place for breakfast in the morning. I absolutely love their garlic bagel, toasted with cream cheese and avocado, paired with a cherry cruller and a glass of orange juice. It’s definitely worth every penny, and I appreciate that you get 14 doughnuts when you order a dozen!

Don't waste your money. I love old fashioned and I have bought from this place in the past. Never again. The reduced the size and increased the price and I think they made them a long time ago. I have gotten better out of a box. Tasted like rubber and cardboard. I don't care about the money, but the worst $6.50 I ever lost. Just wrong what they charge and offer. Not sure if they have new ownership, but they need to look at quality control. Does anyone have a great donut shop in Poway or RB??? The search is on.

I'm giving this Winchell's donut shop five stars not because they have my favorite donuts (Krispy Kreme), but because they have excellent bagels and sandwiches and very good donuts and they are open 24 hours a day! I've tried their tuna sandwich and turkey melt on toasted bagels and they were delicious, much better than Subway, Jersey Mikes, Schlotskies or other sandwich places in my opinion. So next time you've got the munchies at 2:00 a.m., try Winchell's instead of Jack in the box or one of the other fast food places and you'll appreciate the difference!
Jugo is truly outstanding! The donuts are simply incredible, of course. The staff is also exceptionally friendly and helpful!
