The Commodore Theatre - Portsmouth

I've been here several times, and each time the overall atmosphere is great. The staff is very friendly, and the movie ticket price is fair. I took off a star because of the food. The quality and portion sizes were lacking, especially for the price. It's worth noting that the price has gratuity built in to it. This ensures their employees are being paid a consistent amount, and I wish more places did this. We will be going back again.

I went here for the Oppenheimer opening and I loved every minute of it! This place really brings you back and with the movies pairing it was such a fun date night.I recommend putting food in a little early. Don’t expect 5 star but it’s perfect food for a movies! I really liked my chicken parm sandwich. For two meals and 1/2 canter of wine it came to about 45. But for the experience it was so worth it.

Tonight was my first time there. I came to see a 3-hour movie. The theater is beautiful. The seats were comfortable. I loved the old fashioned aesthetic. The server explained that food should be ordered by the time the movie starts because only drinks refills are available once the movie starts. You do however, have the option to order a dessert to be held and served after the meal.I never saw that server again.I reached the kitchen fairly quickly to order. Drinks came out right away. There was a small wait for the popcorn. The food came soon after. I ordered fish chips. My fish consisted of one piece of fish the size of a chicken tender, one piece of fish that looked like it was the corner of another piece of fish, and a lot of waffle fries. It was good, but the size of the meal reminded me of an appetizer.I ran out of my drink (water) and had to call the kitchen for more. I asked for a popcorn refill and was told popcorn isn 't served after the movie starts. When my dessert came out, I was out of water and called for more. The woman who answered the phone snapped, You already have water at your table. I advised her I drank it all and would like more. The server who brought me water dropped a napkin in my glass. I ended up washing the glass in the bathroom and getting my own water from the water fountain. This was in the FIRST HOUR of the movie! Shortly after this, I have my check shoved in my face. Staff (not my original server) was running all over the place. It distracted from the film.I understand they don 't work for tips, but the staff doesn 't have to be rude and act entitled because they 're guaranteed 20 percent from each check. I 'm not big on being disrespected, so I don 't see myself returning.

What an amazing experience!! The ambiance is unique and amazing! It’s the first time that I saw something like this. The movie was very good but the best part was talking to the owner! He is a amazing person very passionate about is theatre. We talk for about a hour about everything he did to make the commodore this amazing experience! The price was really reasonable for everything he offered. Everyone should take a small moment to talk to him and discover what an amazing person he is!

Beautiful theater! Maybe work on food choices. Need more healthy options. Otherwise, fabulous
