This restaurant tries too hard to be super posh but fails on service and food, which is not what you might want for the prices it charges. There are equally good offerings in Portovenere, and many better, so for foodies expecting high quality food and discreet, attentive service, this was a disappointment. On the plus side, the view is wonderful (if you have a seat facing it) and the wine is drinkable. View all feedback.
We had an amazing experience at Palmaria Restaurant....starting from the view... What to say, the terrace has the most beautiful view in town and the atmosphere with music and lights make the dinner so special. From starter to dessert, we wanted to taste the local choices. In this chapter I have to say We felt very well guided by the staff, they were so prepared and explained every course with a lot of passion and knowledge. As we expected the ingredients were so fresh and every dish was unforgettable. We loved the pasta al pesto!
Palamaria restaurant was a wonderful first meal for us in portovenere. 3 people in my family have coeliac disease and eat gluten free. The staff at Palamaria were very understanding of this and offered lots of gluten free options. They also provided fresh gluten free bread that had been cooked separately, and offered most of their pasta dishes gluten free. I had the gluten free penne pomodoro and it was delicious. A great experience with great views, would definitely recommend.
We made a booking through Fork and clearly noted that we would bring our two small dogs. At arrival it was noted to us that the restaurant policy is no animals. Even though I have all the respect for any policy and I do not feel bitter about restaurants not accepting dogs, but what I feel is completely without respect is that we were not notified before. The restaurant had plenty of time after receiving and CONFIRMING the reservation to contact us and let us know. It really is not acceptable and shameful.
The staff was excellent, the breakfast was a highlight and the accommodation is beautiful. we enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend!
We were able to make a reservation online through The Fork, which I appreciated. The restaurant is a bit formal for my taste, but we had a lovely experience. The bread plate and the amuse bouche were gorgeous. We chose the restaurant specifically because they have a vegetarian menu (although it wasn't on display outside the restaurant). While that menu wasn't extensive, the trenette al pesto and the eggplant parmigiana were both delicious. Our server was very attentive. We would return.
