We visited Porto Moniz yesterday during our holiday in Funchal on Madeira. A bus took us to the other side, the northwest, of the island. It was cold and windy and we decided to spend our time in this restaurant. We enjoyed the meal. We...had soup, bread, grilled pork and tuna pizza half a bottle of white Planalto wine. The service was good and friendly. They made some mistakes with the bill, left out some items. Aft... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Gaivota:
We visited Porto Moniz during a West tour of the island starting from Funchal. We had worked out that it was cheaper to have a lunch on the tour than have one locally in the evening in Funchal. There was nothing wrong with the meal,...and there was plenty of it including wine and beverages. To be honest it was good value. We were on an organised tour and the guide booked us in for lunch at Gaivota. We were not expecting much as normally tour recommended places are not the best. This was better than most and the food was edible. We got a 3 course...lunch, wine and coffee for €13 a head. At that price it was not the Ritz but I have paid more and got worse.
I was here for lunch a couple of days ago, I found it strange when we walked in and the place was empty, but soon figured out why! We chose two portions of octopus, bread and a bottle of wine. They were rather quick in...serving the food, probably heated in the microwave. We didn't have any napkins on the table and I had to get up and go to the counter to pick up a couple of napkins. Overall, the food wasn't tasteful and later that day we found out why... We got food poisoning from the octopus, we had strong tummy aches, headaches and diarrhea that lasted until yesterday! It's a place never to return again!
Stopped here for lunch on our coach tour. Service excellent and food was good honest Madeiran cooking . Value for money.
All the drivers of tours take their clients to this place while they seem to get a kick back (in free food? Though why they would want to eat here I don't know). Avoid it. You don't have to eat here. There are far superior...cafes restaurants in Porto Moniz. You have been warned.
This restaurant was included in our West Tour by Up Mountain Madeira. Value for money this restaurant is perfect, we received a three course dinner with coffee and wine for only 10euro.
