this is my favorite place for sorbet in the inner city of portland. mdi ice cream has in the regular a few different flavors of sorbet, and they change the offers regularly. everything is unique. some of the options they could find are blueberry basilikum, nectarin champagne, pearseriesling, and mango jicama habanero?! if they are a vegetarian and ice cream fan, their milk is produced locally, and they have musheleis... What User doesn't like about Mount Desert Island Ice Cream:
The ice is pretty good (we have Bay of Figs, miso butterscotch, and the caramelized pear) and I appreciate the variety and unique aromas. But the pots I got were smaller than my companion. Our cups looked the same even though she had a double and I got a triple. View all feedback.

Love going to ice cream shops with unique/interesting flavors and this one definitely met my expectations! I ended up indulging in Bay of Figs Lemon Poppy Seed Berry Swirl a killer combo that satisfied beyond what I anticipated! I was torn on getting Kelp Caramel and/or Butterscotch Miso was a bit bummed that we weren’t able to taste test before ordering. Nonetheless, my sister ended up getting the other two I was between so I still got to enjoy them! As odd as they may sound, they were both super tasty too!
Mount Desert Island Ice Cream has five shops mainly located in Portland, with additional locations in the District of Columbia and Japan. We visited their Portland location for the first time and were impressed by the delicious ice cream. The ice cream is made in small batches with a high ratio of butterfat and low air whipped inside, showcasing their dedication to quality. The flavors were all tasty and the atmosphere was cozy and simple. They don't list all flavors on the wall, so you'll have to visit to see the full selection. The line can get long quickly, so arriving early is recommended. The counter service was friendly and efficient. If you're in Portland, Maine and looking for unique flavors, give this place a try. We tried an ice cream flight with four different flavors - Metz Sugar Pill, Blueberry Sour Cream Crumble, Lemon Poppy Jam, and Butterbeer. Our favorite was the Blueberry Sour Cream Crumble, which had a rich blueberry flavor with a hint of sour cream and a sugary crust. The Lemon Poppy Jam was also delicious and fresh, with a generous amount of jam. The Metz Sugar Pill was a tasty take on s'mores, with a marshmallow base and graham cracker bits. The Butterbeer flavor was different, tasting more like root beer than expected but still enjoyable. There are many other flavors we want to try on our next visit. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere were exceptional, earning a perfect 5 rating. Check out their variety of flavors and follow for more reviews across America.
The best ice cream we have ever had. All other ice cream is ruined now. The Fresh Mint tasted like an actual mint leaf. Not mint flavored, or mint extract, but an actual real life mint leaf. It was amazing.
The ice cream was absolutely delicious. The bottom layer was reminiscent of a Girl Scout thin mint cookie, while the top layer featured Maine blueberries with a crumble inside. This was definitely the best ice cream I've ever tasted, and it was reasonably priced as well. I will definitely be returning for more!
