I highly recommend trying the sour beers at Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Portland, Oregon. The Honey Ginger Lime is my favorite. The beer selection is fantastic, and I would definitely suggest giving it a try. The food is also worth trying, especially the Baked Brie. The service was decent, but the presentation was lacking. The prices are reasonable, ranging from $30-$50 for two people. Street parking is available... View all feedback.
What gonzozen55 doesn't like about Cascade Brewing Barrel House:
I usually enjoy all visits to breweries! Just too be clear, this is not a slight to this brewery, as others may enjoy the beers here, but they were not my style! I did not find one beer that I thoroughly enjoyed. The food though was Amazing! Bring on some Amber's and Brown ales, and they would have it's covered. View all feedback.
The food at this restaurant is delicious! We sat outside in the covered area while waiting for our teenager and his friends at Holocene. The garlic mac and cheese was the best version we have ever tried anywhere. It was really amazing. The spring salad (seasonal greens, asparagus, strawberries, plucked watermelon radishes, fried quinoa, sunflower seeds, citrus vinaigrette) was bursting with flavor, unlike anything I had ever tasted. I also ordered the thunder holes, and they did not disappoint! We haven't been this impressed with a meal since we were teenagers, but I can confidently say that they know how to cook very, very well. I consider this place to be a hidden gem for dining in Portland.
This is the kind of brewery they do not find at many places. the selection is incredible, and the portfolio is diverse and interesting. if they are annoying, absolutely necessary to make a visit here. get all the flights that are available to stay at a beer for their first visit. the food is also brilliant, actually well thought out and interesting, instead of the standard tariff most breweries have. also love the pairings, really a nice note.
This is the best food in town with a fabulous location, amazing staff, and delicious dishes. I highly recommend trying the forest gold and sang noir, but honestly, everything is fantastic. Fiona and Wolfie are wonderful, Miguel is cool, and the kitchen staff is great. They also have trivia nights on Wednesdays and a Harry Potter trivia event every month. It's a great place to have a good time. Plus, the WiFi is excellent for getting some work done while enjoying delicious snacks and drinks.
We visited this restaurant on a Harry Potter trivia night, but since we were not participating, we were only able to sit outside. This was not a problem as there were heaters available. We ordered shepherd's pie and pretzel with cheese, but it felt like it took a long time, around 20 minutes, to receive our food. Despite it being a busy night, our server apologized twice for the delay. The food was average, with the shepherd's pie being decent but the pretzel not meeting our expectations. We probably won't be returning for a meal. After finishing our food, we waited another 20 minutes before inquiring about our check from another server. In the end, we had to get up and pay as our server never came back. The main issue that led to a 3-star rating was the long wait times, even though we understood the circumstances. Overall, the experience felt like we were waiting forever and the food was just okay, not worth the price or a return visit.
We were visiting Portland for President's Day weekend and since we heard that the beer scene is big here, Cascade was one of the places on our list to check out. We got there at around 1:45 on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too packed, but started getting a bit more crowded when we left at around 2:30.We only had beer and we ordered the Pear sour (since they're known for their sour beers, and the Easy Rider flight, which is 4 oz each of:-Portland Ale: Blond Ale brewed with German Pilsner malt Northern Brewer hops. 4.9% 14 IBU-Cascade IPA: India Pale Ale brewed with Cascade and Amarillo hops. 6.2% ABV 50 IBU-Makin' Money Moves: Bourbon barrel aged imperial milk stout with lactose, pecans and vanilla. 9% ABV 29 IBUI'm not sure if I tasted much pear in the sour. As for the flight, my favorite was probably the Portland Ale, even though I normally prefer stouts. The ale was very refreshing. The other two were just okay, but I also don't really like IPAs. We realized after the fact that we could have just ordered 4 oz pours of the beers we actually wanted to try, and it would cost the same as a flight so there really is no benefit to ordering a flight here.If you like sour beers, this place might be for you as they do seem to have pretty unique flavors that rotate. But if you're looking for regular beers, I'm sure you can find something better out there.
