What Jimmy M doesn't like about Trophy Lake Golf And Casting:
Has great bones but terrible maintenance around bunkers. Greens are having a rough time this spring, slow and bumpy. Some cups look like they were cut in 2006 and haven't been moved since. View all feedback.
At the end of our round, we discovered that the clubhouse had stopped serving food, and the drink service was so slow that we decided to leave. The course itself was in decent condition, but the greens were quite slow, and the bunkers were filled with large rocks, suggesting that the maintenance staff had neglected them. This used to be one of our favorite courses, but due to Oki Golf's lack of upkeep, poor management, and unhelpful attitude, we won’t be returning. If you're looking for a place on the Peninsula, I suggest you find something else, as the Trophy has regrettably become a disappointing choice.
I have mixed feelings about Trophy Lake (not quite love-hate). The course has a solid foundation, and it offers a peaceful atmosphere with lovely scenery. The staff are genuinely nice, and I haven't encountered anyone who seems disinterested, which is a plus. However, here are my concerns: they charge more than the two other nearby courses, yet there are areas that require better maintenance. When a course has lower rates, it’s understandable to find less-than-ideal conditions. But when it's nearly $100 (even in the off-season) to play, it's only fair to expect well-kept bunkers without grass growing in them (and there are quite a few) and to have the large rocks removed from those bunkers. Right now, I think Trophy Lake is worth around $60. If they're charging over $100, I would recommend playing at Gold Mountain or McCormack Woods instead.
The course has a lot of potential, but the maintenance around the bunkers needs significant improvement. The greens are struggling this spring; they are slow and bumpy. Some holes appear to have been cut back in 2006 and haven't been adjusted since then.
Unfortunately it looks like trophy lake has given up and is trying to be sold. They've become like the other oki courses and gone cheap on quality and asked their customers for more money. A shame
