Mekong Restaurant - Port Macquarie

Came in a little late on a Sunday lunch with 2 friends. I believe google told us the establishment was open till 3. We probably got there around 2:05 pm. Nobody greeted us for about 5 minutes. Then the man who was serving tables came up to us and said, "normally the kitchen is closed after 2, but let me ask the chef if we can open the kitchen for you." He went back into the kitchen and all we heard was a loud scream saying, "NO, I DONT WANT THEM!"First of all, we would of been perfectly happy with a kind "no" from the waiter but that was appalling. We would of spent a lot of money at that restaurant and we're eager to give the food a try. However, because of the absolute rude exit we were given, we will never go there again. We heard it was the best Thai in port Macquarie but to be honest I've never experienced worse service in port Macquarie. Very Disappointing.

Normally I take a photo of the meal to go with the review - but it smelt so good we just dug in and started eating. Then I had this 'oops' moment that I should have taken a photo!! Anyway very very good food. No MSG!!!!!!! All really fresh and just cooked. Plenty of customers who thought like us. A good bar. I had Thai Prawn Salad which was top notch. My husband had the coconut curry cod with vegetable. Plus other bits. Reasonably priced. Young staff who were perfectly groomed and dressed (how refreshing is that) and gave great service! We had a 5 star experience with a stunning sunset view overlooking the water. Very nice - we will be back very soon Mekong!!

A lovely location and although the service from the waitstaff was good, the kitchen was either understaffed or on a go slow as it took forever for our meals to arrive. The cod in a coconut curry sauce was delicious as were the prawns however, the chicken pad thai was bland... very disappointing.

Arrived here at peak hour. Service was very good but we waited a long time between our entree and mains. Only seemed to be one person cooking. All extras were charged for and it wasn't cheap or good value in my opinion - spring rolls with pork and prawns seemed very much like others we've had elsewhere were $13 for four (the usual small ones), a very ordinary noodle dish that we ordered with pork and the later addition of prawns ended up costing $32! There was hardly any pork in it and it was tough. I wouldn't eat here again or recommend it.

Lovely tasty meal with great flavor. Meal ended up a little costly with starters and drinks for 4 people but great overall.
