We didn't quite know what to expect as the reviews are mixed. We stayed at the Exchange Hotel and did not want to travel so decided to dine in. Very pleasantly pleased with both quality and service. The ambience outside is lovely and in May very comfortable. Beware - the servings are generous. We shared white bait then I had a second entree and a salad. All super tasty. My husband had Fillet which was cooked to order... View all feedback.
What Tiffany Robertson doesn't like about Restaurant 1904:
We were looking for some where to eat and after going through the advice on this site we had difficulty finding somewhere. We stopped at the Harbourside hotel because the lights were on. I saw no reference to this restraurants name out the front of hotel nor in side or on memus. My husband ordered the sirloin steak which was cooked to his liking. A little oasis in the dry town of Port Hedland. Service slow but the food was good. We visit Port Hedland a few times a year so would definitely be back. Watch for the bill - super expensive (eg: steak $47)

The $45.00 steak came with 5 chat potatoes and some brococchini. I ordered the fettuccine with blue swimmer crab, chili and herbs. It was ok, but coud not taste crab or chili. Expensive pasta at $37.00. Overall staff friendly and nice outdoor space.

Flew in to town late was staying at the attached hotel. They found me a table without a booking and the service and food were great!! Enjoyed the meal which was tasty and well presented!
Attended last night for a birthday celebration. Dining area is well presented and they appeared to have ample staff. First issue was we were not looked after by one waitperson and this caused a fair bit of confusion. On three occasions a waitperson presented us with drinks for another table. Another also asked if we had got our drinks 30 minutes after she brought us out drinks. There were long waits between courses and once our main was cleared we waited 20 minutes for a waitperson to approach to see if we would like deserts even though we requested desert menus before our mains. All up we were there for 2 1/2 hours. The starter, garlic cheesy pizza, was ok but no one could taste any garlic. 4 different mains were ordered. The Vietnamese chicken salad was lacking chicken and heavy on cabbage, the candied cashews were pretty much non existent with way too many chilli seeds however the dressing was pleasant. The lamb was beautifully cooked but the polenta was under seasoned and barely any basil in the pesto. The pork knuckle was delicious however a little over cooked. The jerk chicken was missing the jerk marinade, had barely any salsa however was nicely cooked and the rice was tasty. Desert missed the mark altogether. Coffees came out first with at least a 20 minute wait for deserts. We feel they should have been served together. Both the sticky date pudding and chocolate fondant were burnt around the edges and therefore bitter. The chocolate fondant was not a chocolate fondant - it was an undercooked mini chocolate cake and the insides were gritty whilst the whilst chocolate dirt was almost non existent. Regardless the ambience was nice and the singer was talented. Still not sure the meal was worth the $260 we paid.
