Grassroots Deli Cafe - PORT CAMPBELL

After attempting two other 'recommended' restaurants, we found that the first had no vegan options and the second had stopped offering their 'special make your own' options, only offering pre-made wraps and sandwiches that were not vegan. Luckily, we stumbled upon this place across the street and discovered a delicious Middle Eastern Salad, welcoming staff, and a charming shop.

I ordered a halloumi salad with the "vegan option available" sign, but all it meant was that they would just remove the halloumi and the yogurt-based sauce. It felt like a scam because I paid the same price but didn't get anything in return. When I asked for more chickpeas to replace the cheese, they didn't add any extra. My friends who ordered the vegetarian option had the same amount of chickpeas as me, even though I was supposed to have extra. The waitress claimed they added more, but it was clear they didn't. It's frustrating when restaurants falsely advertise vegan options and then disappoint customers like this. The service was also subpar, with staff getting annoyed when I asked for a simple request. The only other vegan option on the menu was bean tacos, but they were unavailable. This would likely have been the same situation - paying the same price but missing out on a key ingredient. If you're vegan, I would not recommend this restaurant.

It can be difficult to find a vegan breakfast in Port Campbell, but we took a chance at Grassroots Deli Cafe. Although the only vegan option on the menu was Granola, the staff were happy to create a vegan version of their Bean Burrito special for us. It turned out to be a delicious vegan breakfast. The staff were friendly and accommodating, so don't hesitate to ask them about vegan options. If you're considering trying this cafe, I recommend giving it a shot and talking to the staff. They have shown that they can make a tasty vegan breakfast, and with enough demand, they may add more vegan options to the menu.

I absolutely love the Tuesday tea and cake special before dancing here. It's so nice to have a proper cup of tea instead of just a tea bag. Thank you for taking the time to make it special.

This was my third visit in just two days to this restaurant. The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, the coffee was excellent, and the service was very friendly. I will definitely be coming back again.
