We decided to make a detour on our way to visit this cafe specifically for their Tasting Plate, which is heavily advertised in tourist brochures. However, when we arrived at 12noon on a Saturday and waited in line for 15 minutes to order, we were informed that they had run out of the Tasting Plate. When I inquired about it, the staff hesitated before confirming that they had indeed run out and rolled their eyes. This... View all feedback.
Great location for lunch, delicious food and great coffee. Birds, gardens and watching it all while eating made for a very relaxed time.
I had a working lunch at this lovely place. The quality of the gift shop and its service was great. I enjoyed my burger but the service at the cafe left a LOT to be desired. The initial waitress who served us was lovely. As was another who apologised for the long delay in recieving one meal. However another waitress was repeatedly so rude, that shortness of time was the only reason i didnt demand to speak to the manager.Firstly when my collegue enquired after her meal at the counter which still hadnt arrived whilst all the rest of us were eating ours instead of apologising for the delay-the waitress rudely made fun of the fact that my collegue couldnt remember the precise name of what sheld ordered (the squatter-by the way) she said something like " you're asking after the 'i dont remember' that you ordered?" My collegue returned to the table commenting on the waitresses ill manner. This is an apalling example of customer service. It was not a joke or an attempt to lighten tension. This same waitress had earlier rudely insisted that a drink order was for our table when in fact it was Not. Again no apology.Another waitress later apologised for meal delay stating that they were three staff short today. As a customer i fully appreciate that this can cause delays...its totally acceptable. What is unacceptable is the manner in which this waitress thinks its acceptable to treat her customers. So to cafe management... nice food....nice ambiance but your wait staff could use customer relations training.

They say this is the best coffee in town as this is where the locals meet also. Even though it is a bit out of town it is worth it
The Arid Lands Restaurant/coffee shop/tourist office is an excellent place to stop off and enjoy the views/plants/food and drink in relaxing surroundings can highly recommend it when visiting Port Augusta
