Good drinks, nice atmosphere. Loved how the bartender played music from a large collection of LPs. Come here.
Great atmosphere to meet other travelers locals alike! Fantastic friendly bartender who went out his way to take care of everyone. Huge list of drinks, whatever your thirst can really wish cheap. At 10 a.m. (on Thursday), the locals appeared with some amazing movements, although they were not too serious that they did not allow us to practice the ground. Will definitely return!
I spent some time in Popayan and since there are very limited reviews on nightlife, I felt I should go out and explore. I visited 4 clubs/discos and checked everyone. I started in Bar Iguana. There were 10,000 peso torches, but 8,000 of them went to a drink? A local beer is 5,000 so you lose 3,000 if you want a beer. The funny part is that if you have a Jarra (there were 2 of us) there are 3 beers, but they invite you 17,000 pesos? I can't understand. Anyway, this is just a bar, with loud music and a small dance floor. Music is all salsa that was expected, but there was no great deal of a Friday night and the place lacked atmosphere. As I said, a good bar, but in my opinion not much more.
This bar is quite had to find as it has quite a concealed entrance, it looks tiny from the outside but it is a lot bigger than you expect. The cocktail list is very good, I especially enjoyed the lemon daiquiri which will certainly get you in the mood to party! The bar plays a range of music and has loads of choices behind the bar. The staff are friendly and helpful and provide table service. There is a random hammock in the middle of the bar which is a little quirky. We didn't eat here but enjoyed a few drinks. Unfortunately it was a mid week quiet night but I hear it gets busy later and at the weekends, as we were leaving early the next day we didn't stay out late. If we had I would definitely have stayed here for the night!
This is the place in Popayan to hang and watch / hear according to Salsa and drink a few Colombian beers. Joan's Daiquiri was the best she ever had! A large screen shows a live salsa dvd and the speakers are high-speed. Great music, but don't expect to have a conversation with someone!
