Cypress Nook - Pompano Beach
Cypress Nook
Description
A beloved, decades-old spot serving hearty, authentic German fare and classic breakfasts in a cozy, old‑school setting. Generous portions—from schnitzel and pork shank to sauerbraten, giant pretzels and potato pancakes—arrive with standout sides like red cabbage and German potato salad. Friendly, family-style service and a sunny patio make it a local favorite; desserts such as German chocolate cake and strudel are decadent finishes. Expect homely charm rather than fine dining, and be prepared for tight parking and a small dining room during busy times.

I 've been coming here off and on over the last 30 years...but hadn 't been in quite some time. Seeing that they had yelp cash back, made the decision easier to try them again for an early dinner. And then we got there to find they had a Yelp check in offer of a free glass of wine or German beer. Score! We had a quite good meal. I felt bad for them, however, that on a Saturday night even though it was early we were the only patrons at that hour. I chose a schnitzel. They offer it in different ways even topped with an egg. You can also choose between veal, pork, or chicken. I chose the pork. The meat is pounded thin and lightly breaded. The jaeger schnitzel means mushrooms (my fave . It was topped with a rich brown sauce loaded with mushrooms, onions, and a few bacon pieces. For my sides you can choose two my go to is always spaetzel little bits of tasty fried dough and red cabbage for color and as my veggie . I think I can drink that brown sauce just on its own! Anyway, it was a large entree portion and I only was able to eat half of it taking the other half home. My husband had their schweinhaxe (sp? which is a huge pork shank on the bone. It requires a bit of work to peel off the crispy outside fat, etc. but the remaining meat is very tender. His sides were warm potato salad and red cabbage. His plate was empty at the end of the meal except for a bare bone. We also tried a bite of their German chocolate cake. Very decadent and rich. It was several moist layers including one of dense coconut. We took most of that home for a midnight or whenever snack.. Would we go back? Yes. Absolutely.
It's okay. It's small and tucked away. But of course if you are gazing into the sky you'll see a huge German flag blowing into the wind. Small parking lot seems to always be packed. I was going to push off my visit again until one space freed up after doing a tight turn in back. Very small venue but extremely friendly service. I decide on tradition German lunch and opened up my journal to write. Most patrons are older repeats with a few tourist that have heard great things about the place. Food took sometime. That wasn't a problem since it was a packed house. But my order wasn't correct when it came. It took quite some time to wave the waitress back since it seemed she was the only person handling the floor. She apologizes and quickly fixes the issue. The food is 3 stars okay. No bells or whistles outside of the potato salad and red cabbage. That was heaven and don't like everyone's potato salad. And the portion sizes are huge. Like seriously huge. My lunch would easily be considered a dinner portion with leftover snack. Sitting there I chatted up with friends in Germany that were getting ready for dinner and it just felt right. Not sure how else to say this but this place just feels right.
Cute and cozy authentic German restaurant with big plates! I met a friend here for breakfast because she loves the food here. It was PACKED for breakfast, and the parking lot is teeny tiny. I circled around twice, but unfortunately no spaces opened up, so I drove down the block and parked at the bank in the next plaza and walked over. The inside of the diner is incredibly small, but the staff works hard to get food out fast. Do not try to seat large parties here, unless you eat outside. I think the largest size table is a 4-top, and there is not a lot of walking room between tables. I ordered a breakfast plate that included 2 Eggs made your way, Corned Beef Hash, and your choice of Potatoes (home fries or hash) or Grits and Toast. I got the hash made extra crispy, and I LOVED it! You can see the pieces of shredded potatoes and taste the freshness of your food when you eat it. The corned beef hash was well seasoned, but cooked a bit on the mushy side for my taste. Next time, I will ask for it cooked well done for my personal preference. I also got a side of French Toast because I know they would be freshly made. The toast was HUGE and so fluffy! I loved it. It wasn't caked in sugars or flour, but fresh egg and not too soggy. I drizzled some syrup on it and finished the whole plate! I had an excellent meal at Cypress Nook, and I will definitely be back! The staff was friendly and very attentive. My coffee cup was always full because someone was always making rounds and checking on the diners. They even knew my friend by name because she often eats there. I would love to come back for dinner and try some German food. Cypress Nook takes cash and card, but use your registered credit card for Yelp Cash Back!
Amazing food, and just the right portions! Their German potato salad was amazing... cooked potatoes, pieces of bacon, a touch of something else... never had this before... oh and their sauerkraut... my bf just told me he has only had sauerkraut twice before and now he's a fan! Friendly staff and they were hustling and busy today... note to everyone they close at 1pm on saturdays but trust me it's worth your time to get here and get here early for other breakfast or lunch.
This location has been serving up great breakfasts for years. The service is generally very fast and offers both inside shaded outside seating options. . Their kielbasa is great and highly recommend their Spanish omelette with their sweet salsa made in house. The portions are quite large with potato options and toast. It seems to attract a lot of the locals who have been enjoying food there for years and being served by the same wait staff that have worked thrrr for a long time as well.
