Food and service was the best we had in Mallorca, despite the restaurant not looking as posh of its neighbors. The starter was refreshing and well put together, the paella was cooked to perfection.
Pleasant meal. Food was fine but not amazing. The waiters were good and service was always there when we needed it.
Service here was average. We ordered the fillet steak which itself was good, however it came with about 8 fries which were cold and undercooked as was the veg. Very small portions and the pepper sauce had no flavour. The food isn’t cheap here so you would expect it to be better. Disappointing. Sea side restaurant next door looks better.
Was close to closing time after lunch so was quiet and we got a seat next to the fire. Quick service, delicious veggie options, and great wine and 0% beer.
Went here after good review/recommendation but ended up being disappointed. We reserved a table but when we got there, there were loads of free tables even though adjoining restaurants looked quite busy. I guess that tells its own story. We had croquettes to start which were very nice and then shared a chicken and vegetable paella. This wasn't presented like any paella I have had elsewhere in Spain. Firstly it arrived suspiciously quickly when normally I would expect it to take some time. Then I would expect it to be plated up by the side of the table and the dish to be left there for us to have extra helpings as and when we wanted. However it was taken away and the whole thing just plated up elsewhere in one go. Also there was no scorched bit at the bottom which suggests it wasn't cooked in the traditional manner. I think it was just a tourist version of paella which was a bit disappointing. Having said that it tasted quite nice just not quite what I expected. After that we just got ignored. No offer of the dessert menu or anything till we eventually asked fir the bill.

We visited as a family of 4, 2 adults 2 children. My pasta was fine, no offer of black pepper or Parmesan though. The children had chicken goujons which, when I went to cut them up, were raw inside. I told the waitress who swiftly took them away but it meant the adults ate their meal well before the children received theirs back. No real apology or offer of anything to apologise. The children’s menu is far from cheap, too, at 14euro per meal. Overall underwhelmed.
We have been using IRU for many years a wonderful family run restaurant.Excellent food good price friendly service. Great location, clean with lovely outside eating area over looking the bay. The owner recognises us and welcomed us like family we are made to feel very welcome and valued Thank you IRU
There can’t be too many restaurants, anywhere in the world, that have been in business since the 1940s and are still in the same family’s ownership. According to the menu, IRU means three in the Basque language and represents not only the family’s heritage but, also, there were originally three bars owned by different family members. So, with that longevity, you’d reckon that they would be pretty good at what they do. Which makes me wonder if our less than stellar meal here was a combination of poor choices and catching the kitchen on an off night. Not least, as we ate here some years back with no issues. I’d like to hope it’s something like that, rather than something more fundamental going awry with the restaurant. But I can only review the meal we had, not the meal we’d hoped to have. Chicken croquettes tasted fine but were much too sloppy in texture, becoming a mush as you stuck a fork into them. I know a good Spanish croquette when I see one and this wasn’t right at all. Padron peppers should come fiercely hot, with the skin blistering, tasting of themselves, the oil they were cooked in and a heavy hand with sea salt. These were just undercooked and bland. Chunks of cod (salt cod from the texture) were perfectly fried and sat on well made tumbet. A lovely dish. Iberico pork secreto has become a popular restaurant dish in recent years. It’s a steak cut from the shoulder, with a goodly amount of marbling. It needs careful cooking if it’s to cook through, yet remain tender. The version here used much thinner steaks than I’ve had elsewhere in Spain and that was probably the major reason why it was dry and tough. A shame really, as everything else on the plate was spot on – good chips, mixed veg and a quite vinegary dipping sauce, which worked much better than you might have first thought. As for desserts, they were both pretty god. The house speciality of almond cake served with almond ice cream was an excellent use of local produce. Cheesecake wasn’t the more common American style but was baked in the Basque style – presumably a nod in the direction of IRU’s heritage. It was delish. So, a decent meal in parts and we’d give it another try, as and when we return to the area, with fingers crossed the experience would be better.
Iru is one of our favourite restaurants in Pollensa and we have had many lovely enjoyable meals there over the last 15 years. I still think their food is the best in the Port. Not sure why the staff are presently unfriendly. Also there is clearly an anti-children policy as the children’s meals are about 16 euros and pretty awful. Has the owner or management changed? Will come back for their lovely food next year but hope the ambiance improves

From asking for gluten-free beer, we were immediately given another menu. more gluten-free choices than we have seen elsewhere. each member of the waiting staff knew that gluten-free was needed, including providing warm (very good) gluten-free brot. excellent service and would highly recommend
Huge gluten-free menu, she understood cross-contamination and asked if I was celiac what was great. They had gluten-free fresh bread and I had the seafood paella that was amazing! They also had a huge Gf Dessert menu.
Best dinner in mallorca. gluten-free or not. my man and I had a wonderful dinner tonight. the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. they are sensitive to all customers with allergies — as my man is allergic to nuts and husks. do not hesitate to choose iru!
My partner and I have just returned from a week stay in Port de Pollença. Iru offered an excellent menu with the most gluten free options we have ever experienced! We visited after reading the review previously posted by Jenny and were not disappointed. Waiter did exactly the same for my partner, removing her side plate to return with a gluten free bread roll. Again we had a small tapas dish before our starter which we were instructed was gluten free. The starter menu had at least half a dozen options, the mains I lost count and I think now six desserts available for gluten free diners. The price was slightly high end but worth every penny for a delightful meal and great service. Hopefully we can return next time we visit.
