While some diners found the food to be below average and overpriced, with small portion sizes and disappointing execution of dishes, others praised the delicious meals and excellent service. The venue itself was described as having a nice atmosphere, especially by those who enjoyed the interesting ingredient combinations and friendly staff. The menu was said to cater to a variety of tastes, with good options for both adults and children. Despite some inconsistencies, many visitors found The Cellar to be a pleasant dining destination with a charming setting and tasty dishes.
My husband and I were up from Newcastle for the day. We walked around the gardens and little village. The cafe had a 50 minute wait so we decided to try The Cellar Restaurant. They had a 10% surcharge being a Sunday. We got one main to share and a bowl of chips for our son. It was below average. The meal sizes are small. The service was not even below average. There was one waitress on and she seemed less than happy to be at work. We waited a while just to be seated and had to ask for a highchair twice. The vibe was not amazing. All in all I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend. It’s a nice venue inside with a lovely open fire place but that’s about it.
We drove past the day prior and it was empty, so looked to cancel but found out they charge $80 if you do so…. Once we sat down and received our mains, it felt like someone who had just moved out of their parents house had a crack in the kitchen that night…. The Food was dry and so dated, with no wow factor what so ever…which is not what you expect for $40 a main course! The menu urgently needs to be updated feels we were back in the 1920s which also coincidentally feels how long my sides were frozen for before defrosting alongside my pork tonight Save your money and go to the pub 800 meters down the road!
My husband and I have been here many times before and our most recent visit was just as good. The waitstaff were great and the food was delicious. We both had the steak which were both cooked exactly how we asked. I then finished off my meal with the most interesting and delicious dessert I have had in a longtime. Thank you, we will return
The positive- Waitress was great, entre was good and desert was interesting. Negative- the duck I had for main was over cooked and this was all very over priced for what you got. I don't mind paying $200 for great food, but this was very average.
The shabby outdoor coutyard, dead trees and plants, old wooden tables....this is a far cry from the style and sophistication which appears on the website for this restaurant. The food is average, yet highly priced. McDonalds would be more appealing.
