We had such a nice lunch here on their terrace. Given that both of us are vegetarians, we asked if they would make something for us (since their menu is mostly meat and fish). They happily obliged, preparing us a huge, delicious salad with a variety of fresh veggies (served family style), potatoes, and bread / butter. The chef even treated us to a glass of delicious local port after we finished. It 's clear they are... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Cafe Restaurante BAGO D'OURO:
Other than the occasional stray passenger from the cruise ships attempting to go local this place only caters for inhabitants of this small village. However, a little english is spoken. Perfectly adequate food in a perfectly clean establishment. Nothing too thrilling but nothing too drastically...wrong either. View all feedback.
If you come on a Douro Valley train excursion, this is near the end of the line, at Freixo de Numao. I have read that the very last stop (Pocinho) has no eating places. That may have changed. At any rate, depending on the day...and train schedule, you will have to hours for lunch at Freixo. We had the shorter time. Lots of Portuguese locals in here families on outings by car, which was a good sign. The proprietor understood our time crunch, and served us a semi-family style meal of the day, with chicken, rice, fries and salad. Good, simple and hearty. Nice, basic atmosphere. This is very rural, but fun.
I had an amazing experience. My husband and I spend some days in Portugal and had the change to eat there with some friends. Everything was amazing. The food was super tasty and fresh and the wine was delicious. Totally recommended and looking forward to...go back..
We were staying at Biarro do Casal for one night . There are no restaurants in this tiny village so we were told of one, about minutes away, on an easy road. There are two restaurants on this road but being a Tuesday night,...the slightly closer one was closed. We were also told that Bago d’Ouro would “look closed” because their lights are dim and their door is always closed.. but if you get there before they are open (after if there are no people, they probably will close). The family who runs it are so kind, great sense of humor, the food was delicious — very typical — some meats, cooked perfectly, delicious fish, fresh beautiful simple salad, fries, bread, olives, great wine. There were maybe about dishes to chose from. Everything was simple, fresh, too much food — typical Portuguese large plates. But..... the two desserts we got were AMAZING. I don’t know what they even were. One was a passion fruit, creamy light something, but was obviously homemade, and the other was a beautiful layer something with almost a pancake type texture layered with creme fresh and cinnamon — I have no idea — it was amazing. We communicated in a Spanish, English, and Italian, as I fo not speak Portuguese, nor French, and the family was so kind, funny and forgiving of our inability to speak Portuguese. The experience was overall so much fun, delicious, and relaxing!!
