Pie House

Pie House
3.5 / 5 (80 reviews)

Description

Set beside a fish pond, this rustic farm-style stop offers hot, comforting burgers, playful apple drinks and a tempting pie selection, but uneven execution tempers the charm. Guests note careful beverage service and tasty cheese fries, yet frequent long waits, brusque staff, chaotic pie handling and underseasoned or unevenly heated entrees undermine the experience. Crowds, traffic and inconsistent mask practices add friction—worth a visit for the view and sweets, but plan timing and expectations.

Visiting High Hill this year isn't really worth it. The lines are forever long with a ton of people just everywhere. The food and even bakery desserts are over priced and the staff is not friendly. The line for the alcoholic beverages was very long only to find out when we got to the register most drinks were sold out.

The food was decent, but the portion sizes were smaller than what was depicted on the menu. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing; the staff was rather rude. When I inquired about a menu item, I was met with a condescending response that they didn’t have it.

Yesterday, despite the rain, we decided to treat ourselves to some warm apple pie and hot chocolate after shopping. I went up to the Pie House window and ordered a whole Dutch Apple pie, heated and served with ice cream. I paid and waited for my order. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit chaotic. I picked up my water at the register and was informed that my number would be called, so I took a seat. One window called me for my nachos, while another called for my ice cream, but my pie was still missing. When I asked the staff why my ice cream was separate from my pie, she mentioned they were still waiting for it and then walked away. I then went back to the nacho window to pick up my hot chocolate. As we waited—this was around 3 PM—staff were busy cleaning tables and putting benches up, despite a crowd waiting in line and the restaurant not being closed. One staff member seemed frustrated because customers kept taking down benches to sit. Of course, people wanted to sit inside since it was raining! After 15 minutes of waiting for our pie, we decided to ask the staff about it. The response was that a Dutch pie was ready, but it was cold, which I told them wasn’t ours since we ordered it warm. She then informed me that they only serve it cold or frozen. I expressed my frustration that I had to wait so long for a cold pie and suggested they microwave a few pieces. I was told they were too busy for that. When I inquired about the plates and pie spatula, one of the staff pointed to the utensils and started to leave. I asked about the plates, and she grudgingly placed some on the table and walked off. I understand that they were busy, but it wasn't overly crowded given the rainy weather. Unfortunately, this experience of poor customer service seems to be becoming a trend. I think I’ll consider visiting one of the other farms for pie in the future. Thankfully, Pie House isn’t the only place that offers pies. You'd think they would recognize that treating customers well is essential for business, as poor service will drive them away.

I had a disappointing experience. The traffic was terrible, and all the farms seemed pretty much alike. The lines were long, and I almost considered leaving while stuck in traffic on the way there. Plus, it was concerning to see that nobody was wearing masks.

The cashier was rude, did not look or talk to me, others were clearly upset with her. Food took ridiculously long, kitchen clearly unorganized, unqualified, and slow. My pulled pork sandwich was dry, tasteless, even season less! Thw meat was somehow cold yet also warm at one end? It was not edible, comparable to middle school cafeteria food.
