After dinner, I was walking down Penn Ave and noticed this cool joint with a large door open to the sidewalk and live jazz playing inside, so I went in and grabbed a seat at the bar. The lovely bartender (don't recall her name, brown very curly hair) was quick to give me a menu and drink list. They offer some nice wines and great cocktails here! This was a very neat spot that we came across on the walking art gallery tour. We already had dinner reservations so we did not get to eat but have bookmarked it for another time. The ambiance was very cool, jazzy and rich with a Latin feel. We got lucky and got some bar seats and ordered some cocktails. There was an amazing jazz band playing and we really enjoyed their set. They had some unique cocktails and we tried the carrot sangrita and the Cubano chant. The carrot sangrita was delicious, unique and refreshing. It comes as a shot of mezcal with a carrot juice flavored with lime, jalapeño and orange chaser. I am not usually a fan of mezcal and cannot do shots but tried it as they suggested and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too smoky or strong and the carrot juice was pleasant and refreshing. The menus said there is a $10/pp charge for the music, which is totally worth it. But just mentioning that because between the charge and the fact that these are true cocktails the bar service might be a bit slower than what you are used to. It's def a place to come and visit if you have some time and want to relax a little.
Dinner at Con Alma last night was a really lovely date. We enjoyed sitting on the patio with a view of the beautifully designed bar. Our server seemed to also be the bartender and we didn 't see her much; she only came over once to take our food orders and didn 't return. However, there was another attentive staff member who seated us, brought us water, took our drink orders, and came back to check on us; if they had been our server this would definitely have been a 5-star review! Keep in mind that if you try to go for dinner on a night with music that you 'll also have to pay a cover fee; we weren 't prepared for that but staff was really accommodating. There were many new menu items yesterday that didn 't show up on the online menu; my partner got the macaroni pie which was amazing! The food was thoughtfully prepared, plated well, and had flavors that were really complimentary. Overall, the food and ambiance possibly made this my new favorite restaurant!

I opted for a nice sipping red while watching the live jazz, which was decent. The place is interesting, with padded bar walls and a record player in the bar area, which really works and is played during the band's intermission. The food looked and smelled interesting, unique, and nice (but since I just ate, I wasn't ordering any food). I really enjoyed this visit and will definitely return!

Con Alma has one of the best atmospheres in Pittsburgh. They serve elevated cocktails and their food is to die for. Make sure you go hungry, because they have generous portions and you will always end up with leftovers! Having live music adds a nice balance of entertainment and conversation. I can't wait to try their brunch menu.
