Coq Au Vin - Philo

Wow. This raises the bar for my other reviews and if I could give 7 stars I certainly would. Think dinner in a French country farmhouse, with European feel and superb service.

Marie has moved to Elk, CA! We happened upon Chez Marie at the Elk Cove Inn and suddenly realized this was the same owner/chef as the Coq Au Vin in Philo where we had much enjoyed a french meal a year ago and were saddened to learn had closed down. Food and service is still great. She only serves meals two days a week and operates out of the quaint little dining room of the Elk Cove Inn, with a great view of the sea and rocks below. When you meet Marie it is like you have known her your whole life. She treats her guests like family.

We went for a birthday dinner on a Monday locals night. (We are locals) The menu was set prix fixe. I usually order vegetarian but that was not an option. There were four meat entree options. Not sure if the regular menu has any vegetarian options. Pros The BREAD! The bread was the best ever crusty fresh baked country french bread! Five stars for bread! Six! Pass the butter! Our table for 7 was ready and waiting for us and the service was good and very friendly delicious food, fine wine, yummy desserts (although they did not have the chocolate cake that night) the owner was very helpful to inform our gluten free family member what was ok for her to eat good price Cons Our long narrow table made it difficult to visit with everyone at the table no vegetarian option there were a few comments about how salty the food was no coffee with dessert after dinner the machine was broken All in all I look forward to going back!

Closed in May of 2015, never to reopen. The Bewildered Pig is trying to open at that address in October 2015.

The Coq a Vin has packed up and moved away unfortunately, taking everything with them. Too bad, place was always packed.
