I attended a performance by John Swana's Quartet featuring Mark Allen on July 8, 2016, at Chris's for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed the music; John Swana is an exceptional valve trombonist with impressive lyrical, harmonic talent, and energy. My wife and I are vegetarians, so we found the food somewhat disappointing, but our friends who eat meat were satisfied with their meals. Overall, the atmosphere was warm... View all feedback.
What Jace Gibson doesn't like about Chris' Jazz Cafe:
I used to live the spot. This time it’s a bit different. You need to pay to get in. The god thing is that it could be as low as 5$. The drinks were not so great either for the price. But the jazz music is always amazing here. I prefer the music here than over time. If you are in jazz then def worth checking View all feedback.
Perfect chill spot to relax and catch some jazz went here on a Friday night there was a cover to get a seat but well worth it for the amazing performance and the crème brûlée was delicious
What a night with 7!!!! Vibraphone players including a 12 year who was spectacular. What wonderful jazz experience at Chris Cafe. Loved to visit again.
If you like real jazz, this is absolutely the place for you! I honestly think it’s the best jazz bar in Philly and have been coming here off on for well more than a decade. On top of their resident local musicians, they also welcome a variety of musicians from all over the world for one-night only gigs, which are also worth seeing. And the staff are always great. Friendly service and just plain fun to be around. One of Philly’s “hidden gems” that’s actually right in the middle of center city, just not in plain sight.
Walking by late night kinda lost and heard great music. Dropped in and found truly great music. Bass piano trumpet all fun music with real artistry. Wonderful experience. Stayed to late night and new musicians joined. Just kept getting better. Best fun in downtown Philly.
It's one of the best jazz places in Philadelphia. We enjoyed our jazz night by listening to talented Maci Miller and Webb T’s Superband!
