An old favourite (I have been coming here for the last 18years) and always good for a quick delicious pub style meals!
Not too cheap and not too expensive for city pub fare.
Service has always been great.
Shame about not being able to get the free little bread rolls anymore. View all feedback.
What Effie Howe doesn't like about Sassellas Bar & Bistro:
First time, not interested in going back. Food is eatable but did not excite me, pulled pork burger. For lunch time and a bit cloudy outside, it was. dark inside with the flooring, furniture and lighting. Smells of beer. Place needs a renovation but would be fine for a cheap meal. Great for tourists I guess. Not going back. View all feedback.
Pub eat in the 3rd floor eatery in the carillon arcade. order them at the counter and collect them at the counter, cutlery and water self service very canteen style that lets me ask why they hang so many waiters around, nothing to do. eating comes within 10 minutes, however, as advertised, which is quite good. had the fish and chips, decent portion and cooked surprisingly well, crispy and not dry at all. bit on r expensive side for pub grub though.
I've been to Sassella's twice now. The first time I had the lamb salad (on the special board) and this time I went for the Vegetable Moussaka which came with chips and salad. My dining partner ordered the pork ribs. The ordering system is a little different, you order, pay and collect your meal at the kitchen, and then there's table service for drinks. It seems to work well. In both visits my food was ready in the promised 10 minutes stated. The food could be described as pub grub and was tasty enough! The location is great, with indoor and outdoor seating options smack-bang in the middle of the city. They do reservations and there's lots of space for larger tables. Prices are pretty good...read more
Agree with one of the previous reviews incredibly rude manager with the look of a hawk and the only concern written across his face I want your money. Not a customer orientated place. We will never go there again
Dull grey carpet covered the floor. Followed by boring brown furniture. Maybe I was expecting a little too much for a pub/ eatery in the middle of the CBD. You line up order your food and then wait for it. Ordered a chicken schnitzel which came with some fries $18.90. Lasagna came with side of salad $21.90. Pretty plain and expensive for plain and boring food, even by pub standard. The only good thing about this place is the alcohol.
Came here on Melbourne Cup Day and they had a free sweep stake and a few TVs showing the race. Was good to have a decent lunch watching the race without the inflated prices.
