In Perry, Iowa, this Chinese buffet blends warm hospitality, affordable pricing, and generous free parking with solid vegetarian options and standout dishes like egg drop soup. Diners praise attentive service, a clean, welcoming dining room, and good value for lunch or dinner. Experiences are inconsistent, however — some report hot, fresh meals while others encounter cold or stale buffet items and occasional food-safety concerns. It's a family-friendly, budget spot worth trying, but freshness can be hit-or-miss.

Was Alan Lewis at Metro Buffet a mag?
Was hoping this was the same as the Metro Buffet in Cedar Rapids...close, but not the same. Although they didn't have sushi, they had plenty of really good food. The owner came around a couple of times to chat and tell us about the business. It is a really affordable and delicious option. We'll visit again when we're back that way. The first time the food was really hot and good. This time everything was cold and nasty. It tasted like it had been sitting out for hours... take your chance or go to des moines... Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1 View all feedback.

**September 23, 2023** I don't usually write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience with this restaurant. Unfortunately, it has really deteriorated lately. We've dined here at least five times in the last two months, hoping for an improvement, but it hasn't happened. Last night, we decided to order takeout instead of opting for the buffet, as the food had often been stale during our previous visits. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. Long story short, the food was completely inedible. We spent $35 on two takeout meals, and once again, they were unacceptable. I understand that these are tough times, but the complete lack of quality control here is simply unacceptable. I hope this feedback is helpful to both the owners and potential customers. **September 23, 2023**

I've never had to spit out my food before, but I did at this restaurant. I ordered two plates, and I couldn't even finish the first one; it was inedible and tasted like cardboard. Service: Dine-in Meal type: Lunch Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Ordered off the menu to go as nothing on the buffet seemed appealing. Should have been my clue to walk out the door. This was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever eaten in my life. Not sure what was given, but it was NOT chicken fried rice. Only made with weird dark yellow rice that rubbed color onto the bland rubbery pieces of chicken. No egg, vegetables or seasoning. Tasted horrible had no flavor. The broccoli beef wasn’t much better old, discolored broccoli with tough pieces of meat in a watery sauce. Tasteless. The hours old white rice was taken from the crock on the buffet not fresh or fluffy. The dumplings were cold and rubbery. While I concede the portions were large, the $38 charged on a non itemized bill seemed steep and didn’t align with the pricing on the outdated paper menu $24 total) on the counter. Definitely not worth the money paid. Will never go there again so disappointing. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
