The Pilot - Penarth
The Pilot
Description
The Pilot restaurant has received a range of reviews from customers. One visitor was disappointed with the dreadful customer service, weird policies, and unclean exterior of the restaurant. They felt that the staff member they encountered was rude and not fit for the hospitality industry. However, another group praised the restaurant for providing a delicious takeaway roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings, cooked to perfection. They were impressed with the quality of food and service, despite not staying in the pub for a long time. Other visitors also enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere at The Pilot, with one couple describing the lunch menu as great and reasonably priced. The wide selection of real ales and fantastic view of Cardiff were also highlighted as positives. Overall, the restaurant seems to have a mixed reputation, with some customers praising it for delicious food and good value, while others were left disappointed with the service and policies in place.

Great food and very accommodating as we hadn't booked a table . Will be calling again .
The Pilot: Part of the small Knife Fork group. 3 ales at time of calling. Modern style establishment french cafe` effect (not really pub style). Staff very welcoming professional. Lunch simply excellent very reasonably priced quality. Toilets clean, modern well maintained. Definitely worth a visit, however like many places in Penarth not easy to find.
Great cosy pub with an excellent view of the city. Good selection of local beer. Fantastic value lunch menu available too. I had roast duck and it was delicious, super crispy skin! The sauce was so tasty we had order extra which was no problem. Can’t wait to take my family.
We were visiting a friend who has recently come out of hospital following a hip operation. When we visit we normly take him out for lunch, however not possible this time. Following some research we found The Pilot did take away whole roast chicken dinner for 4 and all the trimmings. We ordered this last Sunday at lunchtime, collected it and took it back to his flat piping hot. The meal was really tasty and cooked to perfection. We carved the chicken, there were plenty of roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips, cabbage, yorkshie puddings annd gravy, all delicious. Would have given 5 stars, but didn't stay in the pub for a long time.
Dreadful customer service with weird policies. Was my local pre pandemic and thought i would give it a try with my dog as nearby. Shabby on outside and empty at 6.45 on a wednesday. Ordered my pint and was then told that dogs are not allowed in after 6 as part of group policy. was then asked to sit outside in cold or leave. place was previously dog friendly. when asked why dogs were allowed told it was group policy in case it was busy and they take up space ??? place was empty on what was meant to be Steak night. the lady was rude and a should not work in hospitality. We use their other pub the sully inn which allows dogs in all the time so it is not group policy. It had the air of a pub going out of business and it surely will with people like her at the helm. Avoid at all costs. place could also do with weeding and cleaning the outside which was filthy. Wouldn’t trust the hygiene of the kitchen if the owners allow the exterior to be so filthy.
