Feedback
Malbec in Pasadena received mixed reviews, with inconsistency in seasoning and food quality noted by some diners. While some found the food salty and overcooked, others praised the delicious steak and wine selection. The ambiance was described as charming and the service attentive. Overall, the experience varied from disappointing to outstanding, with recommendations to try it for oneself. Whether trying the salmon, halibut, or Lomo dish, Malbec seems to offer a diverse menu that can cater to different palates. Despite some hiccups, many diners plan to return for another dining experience at this Los Angeles gem.
Ruth’s Chris and Morton’s don’t open till late afternoon on Sundays but Malbec is in the same class. Maybe the best tomahawk cop that we’ve ever had, rare and pink but perfectly warm.
The ONLY reason why I did not give 5 stars across the board is because of the acoustics it is VERY hard to talk to your fellow diners and guests with the acoustics in the big room... the noise is pretty deafening... But the food was amazing as was the service! Thanks! Steve
We arrived on time to our reservation. The hostess was not friendly. It is our fist time to dine there especially with my family and my beloved grandsons(, who is quite an adult in a little boy body . We were offered a gloomy muted room separated from the mail dinning room . I was dissatisfied and asked to have the main dining room but was offered the side room that is connected to the main dinning . To me the main dining room is far more fun where there are more interesting items to view and its beautiful bar. There was a group who came after us was offered the main dining seating. The food was good, the wine is fine . The initial unfriendly greeting and the choice of seating we were offered, I was quite disappointed in my dining experience.
I've been going to Malbec's for some years now, and it's always a special treat. My GF and I would go to the Toluca Lake location and then once in a while to Pasadena. We had not gone since COVID hit and on Oct 1 of this year we decided to go to thePasadena location. We met some friends there. It was an amazing time! The only issue we had was I reserved a table and theycould not initially find the reservation. We sat at our table and everything was nice and clean. The waiter was very attentiveand went over the menu. My GF and I ordered red cab wine, and our friends ordered the Sangria. The wine was excellent and ourfriends said the Sangria was very tasty! We also had some bread with chimichurri sauce prior to having our entrees. Even thatwas great. We also ordered duo de empanadas (beef and ham/cheese empanadas) mmmm. We did not get full prior to getting our maindishes. I ordered the costillas de corderro (rack of lamb) with a Madeira wine and porcini sauce. I had mashed potatoes withspinach as sides. Ohh... it was heaven. Yum! The meat was juicy and soft. The sauce was perfect. My sides were delicious. MyGF had the fetuccines con salmon (salmon fettuccine). She said it was also delicious. I tried some and agreed. One of ourfriends had the lenguado al lemon y alcaparras (pacific sole with lemon capers). I did not try his but he stated it wasdelicious. I took a picture.. lol. The waiter kept checking on us and was outstanding. When we finished eating we decided notto have dessert and finished. Although from my past experience, I know that the panqueques de dulce de leche are yummy and myfavorite. I'll have to get those next time. I later asked for some more empanadas to go and was paying while talking to themanager. He actually remembered me from visiting the Toluca Lake restaurant. He was now at the Pasadena location. This was agreat experience at Malbecs of Pasadena!
Love this place. It's fine dining. There's usually a wait in the evenings on the weekends. We had the short ribs and they were amazing. You could really taste the smoky wood fire grill in the meat. Cooked to precise. Short ribs are usually cooked mediumto well done for best taste and they did just that. The cut of the meat is very flavorful. The calamari was very delicious, theygave big portions and it wasn't just all batter like some places. For the Parking situation, there is some street parking ongreen street. Service was fantastic. Very kind and friendly. And fast. Over all a great experience. ? Great food ? Good price ?Good service ???? Simchelin Stars
