We were celebrating the sweet 16 of my niece. We wanted to make it memorable for her on a milestone birthday and her first time having high tea at a tea room. Our server, Sam, made the best suggestions and was incredible. He along with the Chado Room staff were accommodating and so knowledgeable of tea service etiquette. The champagne infused iced tea, chocolates, sandwiches, scones, jams, creams, biscuits, macarons a... View all feedback.
What Minh D doesn't like about Chado Tea Room Pasadena:
The tea is quite ordinary, and the sandwiches did not meet my expectations. Apart from the experience of having English tea, the food is just average at best. I’ve had more flavor from a Lipton tea bag. The only redeeming item was the tomato soup, which was decent. View all feedback.
It's a great spot for a date! The teas were excellent and the food was tasty. The outdoor seating was also enjoyable, and the service was outstanding.
Frustrated with the wait, I decided to head back into the restaurant. As I approached, a waiter finally acknowledged us, stating he would assist us shortly. I mentioned that it was difficult to know who was supposed to serve us since we had been there before others in the vicinity. He took our order, but the experience was already off to a rocky start. When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming. The Waldorf salad was very dry, the plates and bowls were mismatched, and the teapot had its lid secured with string to prevent it from falling off while pouring—definitely not what I expected from a restaurant. Overall, it was not a classic dining experience.
The food was tasty, but the sandwiches dried out quickly because they didn't cover them with a warm, damp cloth to keep them fresh. Additionally, the portions were quite small, which was not what I had expected. I also found the sandwiches poorly labeled; while the menu listed the items, they were not identified upon delivery, so I had to ask the server what we were eating. As someone who has organized teas before, I was shocked by the lack of planning. The table we were seated at was far too small for comfort, and I ended up sitting with my back against a lamppost, which was quite charming in a frustrating way. The iron holder for the plates was warped, and the plates themselves were too small, causing them to tip and slide with every little movement of the unstable table. Overall, I found that the negatives outweighed the positives at this establishment. My guest mentioned that she had visited the West Side location of the Chado Tea Room and had a completely different and more enjoyable experience, which adds to my disappointment. I believe they need to relocate from this storefront, as it is ill-suited for the kind of dining experience they aim to provide. The rest of the issues, such as staff training and equipment, can be addressed, but they really need to find a proper restaurant space. Wishing them the best of luck! - Lauri Hyde
Eating was delicious and perfect for the tee season! the service was attentive and let us welcome.
Birthday Celebration Tea was so delightful!. The only dowside was tgat the bread for the tea sandwiches wasn´t toasted so it was gummy. Service and ambiance was great.
