We found this restaurant by chance because close to our hotel. The menu is classic but also allows you to order entry nems.In this category of restaurant on the theme of the japon, it is true that prices can be more important but it is not true on the whole card. The restaurant is quite classic without really charming but it is probably a good neighborhood restaurant. Many people pass to take their order but not nece... View all feedback.
We have driven past Ichiban for four years and never thought to go in. Its on a high traffic corner in a shopping center that isn't very nice, nor is it in a great location, more of a pass through high traffic location. One day in the pouring rain my wife suggests we try it, I was skeptical because of the building and location so I went along not expecting much. Boy did I get it wrong. Excellent service, very attentive and professional, great food, pretty well presented and flavorful food. The interior is showing some age and nothing to get excited about but its clear the owners care about quality and training their staff well. We get used to so many places having sub par service, maybe nice people but casual and really not so well trained, even inf the best restaurants in town. We forget what good service in a sit down restaurant is supposed to be like. These folks have not forgotten! Simple things like serving from the correct side, not allowing finished dishes to linger on the table, keeping water glasses filled, not getting too chatty with the table, setting food down with a bit of flair, not slapping it down but taking a moment to set it down respectfully they way you would get it if you were in Japan. Having traveled to Japan I had some experience with the little details most Americans miss or don't know to do. Its easy for Japanese services to drop it out of speed knowing most Americans won't notice. But little things like presenting the bill with two hands, offering a bow quick and slight bow each time they leave the table, exiting backwards, showing respect to the guests etc. Who does that anymore? The waiters do, even the kids who are clearly white or non-Asian. And again an indication the management has taken the time to train them. Back to the food, Such is always fresh and tasty and attractive, kind of works of art. Bento boxes for lunch are basically how I would get them in San Francisco or Japan. The grilled items, tempura, and other specialties were well made and presented. Ignore the location and the decor, thats not why your there, go for the great food!
