Whales Bone has become one of my regular lunch spots as they truly excel in service and quality of food. Specifically the smoke fish sandwich, which despite being one of the cheaper items on the menu goes a long way in delivering great taste. This review is for the Bank St. location which to my understanding is rather new, however, the service and food has been consistently great since I stumbled upon this sandwich and became a regular. I will also preface that Whale's Bone does in house bread baking and you get a plate of bread before your meal that easily destroy your appetite because of how good it is, you can only buy day old so it is never as good as it is in house (great business model) because it is fresh(er.) The bun on the sandwich reflects the same quality as the bread and the seafood is top notch as well (the sandwich consists of the catch of the day but the Arctic Char I feel complements best) Ill be honest and I have not had the pleasure of trying anything else on the menu but Ill save that for a good dinner rather then lunch where this sandwich hits a home run. Further to this the service has been stellar from the beginning we have had the same server each time (tall fella I should know his name by now. sorry) who does his job very well, is extremely accommodating and personable. The price will run you more then your average lunch but in my eyes, well worth every penny.
Very fresh oysters and mussels, the server was very friendly and willing to help! The quality of the food is great! We loved the fresh shackled oysters! Can't wait to do it again!
While staying in the city for just one night, we decided to dine at The Whalebone based on the fantastic reviews, and we were not let down! The service was excellent, with our friendly and attentive host (whose name we unfortunately didn't catch) making our experience even more enjoyable. The food itself was delicious, every bite bursting with flavor and leaving us wanting more. The atmosphere was lively and vibrant, yet not overwhelming or distracting from our personal conversations. Overall, we left extremely satisfied with our experience and will definitely be returning when in Ottawa again. Highly recommend this restaurant!
It was a hot day and I was wondering whether to wear shorts to the restaurant. I looked at the prices on their online menu and decided this is no place for shorts. When we got there we were greeted by a server wearing shorts! This is a casual restaurant. We had the Lobster Bucatini, the Chinook Salmon and the Seasonal Vegetables. The Seasonal Vegetables included sauteed kale, green beans, carrots and broccoli. All items tasted great. The salmon had a nice sweet taste. It came on a bed of 'farmer 's veg ' which were exactly the same as the Seasonal Vegetables side so keep that in mind. The lobster was a bit pricey for what it was in our opinion. Street parking is free after 5:30pm on weeknights.
