Was Anonym at Thali a mag?
Usually second experience is not glorious but with Thali, even better. Nice Indian food with a touch of modernity married to the generosity of the indians. Tried different dishes, same delight View all feedback.

What Anonym dislikes about Thali:
the hotel is located in walkable distance from the parlament hill with the right taste of Indian cuisine in a thali/plate. paneer along with other sweets were all delicious and as I expected. the prices seem to me also to be a bit high that thiali should have enough food for the person, but there was only Paratha/Brot and bowl rice that seems not enough for me, so to more paratha. other than this taste is good and va... Helloo from a real Google critic!Lovely South Indian curries … freshly made..!!BuT but but..When i am ordering a 30$ indian THALI, I expect FRESH Rotis or parathas !!! They were DEFINITELY NOT Freshly cooked ..!! I could just tellThe vegan rotis were frozen ones, LOLIf you cannot cook fresh food, DO NOT put it on the Menu Sir ! It’s not fair AT ALLLL..!!Moreover an Indian thali SHOULD include One entree ATLEAST !! Just serving 3-4 curries, which are served only 2 spoons each IS NOT how Indians are served !I would definitely kindly suggest the chef to just put in extra effort for customers to have a reason to re-visit again..!!Ooh the DAHIVADAS stole the show ..!! They were freshly made the chutneys PERFECT ?Thank you !!

I have been a fan of thali and Joe since it opened. I have been there for every major occasion. We went today, spent 250 and unfortunately the quality of food was like any other Indian restaurant. I have previously given 5* reviews but am downgrading the food and service this time. Don't think we will go again. Totally disappointed by the quality. I am a conniseur of Indian food and have always held Joe's cooking in the highest esteem. The kheer was undercooked. Rice was semi-raw and that amazing taste of each dish is gone. Sad!!

During our recent visit to Ottawa, we visited this restaurant. It was quite close to our hotel so thought of going their for dinner. Ambience was very pleasant. Tables are very well organized with plants besides each table. Enough lighting. We ordered 3 traditional vegetarian thali. It was so aromatic when it got served on our table. It includes some curries, desserts, one parotta, one papad and bowl of rice. Out of all curries, mushroom curry and kofta were super delicious. Baingan preparation can be improvised. Overall taste was delightful. From pricing POV, we felt it was overpriced. However, it is worth giving it a try. Staff was very humble and courteous.Kid-friendliness: They dont have much options for kids. However, they made less spicy mushroom masala for my son and he loved it along with paratta.

TLDR: Delicious Indian food. Easily one of the best Indian restaurants in Ottawa. Nice ambiance too. My husband and I went to Thali with a couple of his friends. I had been to the owner's original restaurant, Coconut Lagoon, on St. Laurent Blvd, about 16-18 years ago and it's still there), but it was my first time at his second restaurant here on O'Connor St. I recall that Coconut Lagoon was ok, but I wasn't blown away. However, I was blown away by Thali. I really enjoyed my meal there. I got the Thali $30). You get to choose 1 meat and I chose beef. My husband got the Maha Thali $35) which gives you a choice of 2 meats and he got shrimp and lamb. Each Thali came with basmati rice, one paratha, one papadam, a white creamy potato curry, a tomato-based vegetable curry, a yellow daal curry/soup, a tomato-based mushroom curry, a coconut and potatoes chutney, raita and a mango tapioca pudding. Mine had a tomato-based beef curry and a sweet curry that I think has mango in it, along with potatoes and other vegetables. My husband's Thali had a mango shrimp curry, and a tomato-based lamb curry. None of the curries were spicy, but they were bursting with flavour. And they all tasted so radically different from each other. So the Thali allowed us to try an excellent variety of curries that varied from one another. I enjoyed everything, except maybe the raita, but I'm not a fan of raita to begin with. Service was courteous. And the decor is pretty. It would be a good date spot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating weather permitting). Street parking only. 108)

We visited Thali twice during our stay in Ottawa. Both times, there were friendly servers who provided information regarding their menu and were good at checking on us during the meal. Each night, we had traditional thali for our meals. The meals (e.g., salmon/chicken thali) were tasty, but I noticed one evening, the meal portion sizes were bigger and the food was hotter in temperature. Overall, we really enjoyed our hearty meals and would come back on our next visit.
