Honestly after seeing and eating food options at four other universities in Canada, there is really no comparison to UOttawa. The variety and quality will blow you away. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Dining Hall:
Prices are decent for all-you-can-eat $13+tax) but the food is kinda hit or miss. The pasta bar is a great option and the desserts are usually good. Overall lots of options and great for students who don't have time too cook. As a restaurant, I wouldn't really recommend it to the average person. View all feedback.
What a find!!!! Campus dining room open to the public. Many options... a lot of energy... move fast...but sooo cool! Great warm food from the culinary team and many places to sit and relax. For $18 Dollar Taxes in its fantastic (all you can eat practically) foodie tour de force Go try it!
I spent many hours here with my friends in my changing year. Originally the price found very steep for the food pass for every day. They will most likely bore the rotation of the dishes on a weekly basis. I had little self-control and the amount of food I eat here in the course of the year made me so fat. For breakfast I made sure to go early at 6:00 to make sure everything was not eaten. Unlimited food and drink after you had paid for the food pass was amazing to see at a university, I don't think we have this in the USA.
This place is wonderful to eat at. Plenty of room, good environment and other students do not bother other people from what I've experienced from the dozens of times I've eaten here for breakfast, lunch as well as dinner. My experience is that of a student who is on a meal plan, so I will simply express my experience eating here rather than compare it to the price. First of all, I have had some bad incidents. I'm not sure if they were dealt with but one of these incidents one of the chefs basically accused me of being a drunk looking for alcohol when I was merely asking about ingredients to put in my ramen. I did send an email about this, they replied saying they would look into it but I dont know what happened afterwards. There was also an incident where one cook was yelling at another near the entrance of the cafeteria in full view of everyone trying to enter the area. This happened last month but still was rather unprofessional and should have been taken to an office or a quiet space where these people could discuss the problem in private. A few days ago, I had an episode of low blood sugar (at least I believe it was that) and almost passed out while waiting in line for an omelette. Immediately the staff rushed over to see what was wrong because I was sitting on the floor and very dizzy. Even though I just needed food, they grabbed me a chair, contacted someone who seemed trained in health and wellbeing, someone got me a glass of orange juice and they made sure I was okay. So definitely not something you see everywhere and was amazing to see how concerned they were and how much they were willing to help. The food can be hit or miss sometimes, but that may be because I'm picky. Sometimes they have fish, other times they have chicken and they often have tofu options for vegetarians and vegans. I sometimes wish they had more beef or pork but I may just be missing the windows for those options when I do go in to eat. The restaurant/cafeteria are extremely open to criticism as well as suggestions, which make this quite special in that they change their menus sometimes based off of popular demand. The other day they served chicken noodle soup simply because someone had asked for it and they also added more milk products in the fridge as well as some different dressings for salads. Overall it's great to see that they are going above and beyond to be as flexible as possible. Overall I'd strongly suggest eating here. Although I cant say much about the price, I can say that the food is almost always well prepared, staff are almost always friendly and happy to help, other students are quiet and not messy, theres plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians, they're a no waste facility (ALL leftovers go directly to compost, napkins are recyclable and all utensils, plates, bowls and cups are washed and reused) and finally they have a section where they will make things exactly how you like it (omelettes are GODLY here) Cleanliness: 5/5 Staff: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Waste: 5/5 Seating: 5/5 Ambience: 4/5 Vegetarian/vegan options: 4/5 Overall experience: 4/5
Decent food. My experience with the staff is that they have been quite helpful overall. The food is sometimes under or overcooked however for the times that I personally visit the dining hall ~9pm) the majority of the food is prepared adequately. There is also a make your own salad bar for vegetarians/vegans.
There are many different things one could say about this kitchen. This place has the best mashed potatoes. Some days they have quality ingredients like roast beef or steak along with gravy. Other days feature such things as Italian fish and risotto. They serve enough vegetables to make your parents happy. There are green leafy vegetables for salad, which all of us need to eat more of. Chocolate milk and drinks are standard with meals. The Earl Grey Tea bags are excellent and very relaxing. And they have icecream. All in all, value and quality for students. Also love reading students comments about the food in TV.
