The food was okay, but an hour's wait to receive our dinners after ordering is completely unacceptable. And, on top of that, we all waited for the last dinner to arrive, only to find out they had not placed his dinner order. Three glasses of pretty ordinary wine cost over thirty dollars. Maybe I should change the title of my review to: The Masochist's Dinner Experience.
This was a recommendation from the concierge at our hotel. It fit the bill perfectly. Local - check! Casual fine dining - check! House made items - check! Local food - check! I don't know where to start with this place. Our server was so wonderful and personable. The restaurant itself looked very unique, with local art donning the walls. Our food was amazing. We had their French onion soup, and their in house made raviolis or " Agnolotti ". Which are made in house, as all pasta at restaurants should be. I had their butternut squash one and my husband ate the special, which was a pulled duck and cream Agnolotti. Both were amazing. Perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. Both dishes were very different but oh so tasty!! We left full but took some cheesecake home with us. It was amazing as well! I would go back over and over as this restaurant sits above the other restaurants we've eaten at the Byward Market. Tip: lots of beer on tap! It changes daily. Tip : If you want pasta eat here! It blew me away!
My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Eastern Canada recently, with Ottawa being one of our destinations. We went to the Black Tomato restaurant twice and were not only...
