Pretty busy at lunch time on a Saturday but only waited a few minutes for 2 people. We ordered 6 dishes and it was okay. The dishes could have been a big bigger. Some of the items were much smaller than dim sum places, say in the GTA. But for Ottawa, this is probably one of the better dim sum spots. The food is a bit slow and it took at least 20 30 minutes for it to arrive. Har how and siu mai were yummy! The chiu chow dumpling was ok in taste but definitely not how a chiu chow dumpling should be in terms of what was inside and the flavouring. The grilled squid was good. The sesame ball was mediocre texture was a bit off inside but taste was ok.
2pm arrival, half full restaurant, 20 mins to get seated, 1 hr until the first dish came out. I've never experienced this level of slow service. 1 server for the restaurant, she did everything and tried very hard and was pleasant. The only good dish was the Cantonese shrimp dumpling. Stuffed green pepper was ok, insufficient sauce and not flavourful. Stuffed eggplant pieces were tiny, dry with very little and flavourless sauce. Deep fried stuffed tofu was flavourless. Chicken feet skin was tough and flavourless. Tofu skin rolls had no flavor. Beef in rice wraps were cold, flavourless sauce, and way too thick and not at all delicate. Cantonese noodles with bean sprout were cold. Lotus leaf stuffed with rice was flavourless. So disappointing. Unfortunately the food at this restaurant doesn't hold a candle in flavour to Jadeland, Yangtze or Yimin. We just wanted a decent dim sum but it was not to be had here. Save your money and time and eat elsewhere.
2+hrs, 60% of order. Staff were clueless about the wait. We had to tell them there were open tables before getting seated. 45mins after ordering, the food started trickling in one dish at a time over the next hour. Periodically the server would come over to the table and tell us certain things were not available. The food we did get was good but definitely not worth the wait. We ended up canceling the remainder of our order after over 2 hours as we were told the cook hadn't started preparing it. Dim Sum is a traditional Chinese cuisine that is supposed to be quick.....there was nothing quick about our experience. Definitely won't recommend or be back.
Some of the best dim sum you have ever tasted anywhere is back in Ottawa. Was there tonight and the new place is much larger and nicer. Food is fantastic as it always was. Can't believe it's been almost two years since they were open. Was not disappointed! Now don't go there if you are in a rush, for those of you who don't know, everything is made-to-order and will be some of the freshest dim sum you have ever tasted. In fact it is one of the top dim sum restaurants that I have ever been to even after having lived in Toronto for five years and having travelled extensively around Asia. Wait time today was about 15 min. We had the har gow, siu mei, lor mai gai (sticky rice), rice noodles, yu choy and sesame balls to name a few. All were excellent. The lor mai gai was a little overdone and clumpy, but the others were all simply fantastic. Can't find better dim sum even from a 5-Michelin star restaurant, having had that in Toronto. I recommend going off-peak hours and taking your time when going there. Talk with your dinner mates and relax. You won't find better dim sum any place else. It's worth the wait. Also, this being the 2nd week opening, they are still training new staff in the kitchen, so the wait may be longer if the restaurant is busy. I will cut them some slack for that. Highly recommended.
On my birthday, which fell on a Thursday night, I went to this restaurant with three family members. We all love Dim Sum, and the food exceeded our expectations that night. The service was fast and attentive, and the Congee was delicious. The dishes arrived quickly and were piping hot. My favorite was the Green Onion and Ginger Squid, which was tender but not overcooked and bursting with flavor. The menu was extensive and everything was prepared well. I highly recommend giving this place a try, as I don't think you will be disappointed.
