I must tell you, o eaters of good food, of a wonderful and new fish restaurant in the town of Orvinio, Rieti, Lazio, Italy that opened in April of this year. Eating here is just as exotic and tasty as any of a number of cosmopolitan restaurants in Tokyo, London or Singapore. That is to say, the 9 table locale with outside seating and two levels inside serves some of the most innovative fish dishes I have ever tasted in my 50 years of eating out. My husband and I have tried many dishes on the menu along with wine and desserts and we have been Wowed. Spigola (a sea fish) with green olives, manicotti, orange juice, salmon coated with pistaccio served with a mixed greens salad, fritture of seafood served in a wire basket, sauteed mussels just as in Amsterdam with juices and crusty bread....yum, yum, yum. The cook and the servers all work together to ensure that the food is brought out right away and you must try the Vermentino wine which is light and leaves no headache afterwards. The potatoes fried are sliced and fried at the moment and all of the tastes complement each other. We were well fed for 62 euros for two for a Sunday lunch, including a chocolate pear tortino with fresh cream and homemade ice cream. Ristorante La Ripetta is open only 3 days weekly: Friday, Saturdays and Sunday lunch at 1 pm. 'Betta, the proprietor, a soon to be mom, is gracious and charming as owner/server. For conneiseurs of fine food, this hole-in-the-wall should be on your to try list. Baci a tutti!
