Hightower Cafe - Olathe

Blink and you’ll miss it. Even following the G-maps I missed it, had to flip it and give it another pass. Glad I persisted and found this joint—perhaps the finest diner I’ve come across in my travels thus far. Hightower Cafe did this drifter right six ways to Sunday.i —For a hungry, weary traveler five days in the bush livin on trail camp food, this here is some darn good eatin. Ordered fish n chips and got me delivered a big old heaping plate of everything I wanted and then some. Tongue and stomach plenty satiated, expectations exceeded.ii —Good hospitable folk workin here, treated me most wonderfully, both in terms of service and friendliness. Took an actual interest in me as an individual, recommended me a great place to visit up on Mesa Grande, sent me off and wished me well. God bless em till they’re red in the face from smilin.iii —A private commode with running water and toilet paper. No shovel necessary.iv —A comfortable booth in which I lingered a good long while catching up on journal phone.v —Cell signal, of which I’d had little to none for some days. Thus could I receive and respond to my sweet desert flower from afar.vi —The art here showcases Native American figures in portrait and landscape. God Great Spirit bless the American Indian, of every tribe, past present future.

Delicious food and fantastic service. I wish we had gotten the gentleman’s name, but he was incredibly personable. Gave us a ton of suggestions for routes to take and things to see on our trek back to Denver. Truly wonderful experience!
