Criollo - Oaxaca

This was our last and very best meal in Oaxaca. Everything about our experience was wonderful. The open air space with its well-spaced tables, space heaters, trees, and draped lights provided the perfect ambiance for the tasting menu that followed. The live music just added to the experience. As their web site explains, the menu changes daily, based upon local ingredients. You can choose from either the 6 course menu or the same menu with the chef's drink selections. We chose the former. Each course was delicious and sized appropriately, so that we all felt full, but not stuffed at end of the evening. I also commend their ability and willingness to adjust individual selections to address dietary requirements. They had no problem making all of my dishes vegetarian/pescatarian. There was no miss with any of the entrees. So, make this your first stop whe coming to this epicurean city. You will be glad you did. Note: I suggest you use taxis to get there and back, to avoid walking thru the homeless encampment down the street.

I almost cancelled after reading the reviews and am glad I did not. This is the second time I have eaten there are both times were excellent. Yes, some of the dishes were kind of weird but everything was delicious. My favorite was a cold mango soup with tiny cubes of fruit and squash along with flecks of chocolate. I highly recommend.

Lugar súper bonito, muy agradable, con una atmósfera acogedora. El menú consiste en una degustación de 8 tiempos y se puede complementar con una degustación de bebidas. El servicio del personal es excelente. El único "pero" que le pondría es que, al ser un lugar tan elegante y no muy económico, deberían tener una mejor calidad en los cubiertos. No afecta en nada la comida ni el servicio, pero deberían prestar atención a esos pequeños detalles que pueden hacer la diferencia.
