What User doesn't like about Golden Island Chinese:
I loved their roast duck! It's the only meal I found to have an authentic Chinese taste. I tried other dishes but didn't find them authentic and quite tasteless. However, if you go there on Friday around 6:30-7pm, there is no way you get served as there is a huge group of tourists coming from a bus trip coming to have dinner. I waited for 30 min and nobody took my order so we left! View all feedback.
We were fortunate to find that the roasted duck was still available, with one portion (half a duck) left. It was incredibly crispy! The sweet and sour pork was also delicious. My only wish is that the Ma Po Tofu had been a bit spicier. The portions were generous, and we left feeling quite full. We enjoyed Chinese tea with our meal, but you can also bring your own drinks for a small corkage fee. There are soft drinks available as well. The lady running the restaurant was kind, cheerful, and friendly. If you’re in Oamaru and looking for a place to eat, I highly recommend this restaurant. The prices are reasonable, and the flavors are spot on!
Fantastic restaurant! We ordered the family meal set, which is perfect for four people. The sweet and sour pork and roasted chicken were incredible dishes. It would be even better if they replaced the sweet corn soup with a classic Chinese soup. I definitely recommend returning!
Really good food. Service is amazing. reading the reviews made me think that people come when the chefs are there alone and are going out back to cook food in which I've experienced before . Other than that absolutely amazing will definitely keep coming back.
Amazing decor, very tidy. Could maybe do with a little bit more art on the walls, though I am not sure. Very very good black bean beef, satay is a bit more average, but to expect good satay might be asking a bit much satay isn't a chinese dish, room for improvement there, still the calorific content was high, great sized servings. Baked spring rolls as entree with something like Rick and Morty's Szechuan sauce, they were excellent. Probably okay to have a drink, but definitely not a place for intoxication.
This place is fantastic! The food was delicious and served hot. I highly recommend it!
