My husband and I visited this place yesterday after seeing it on TikTok. I love the hole in the wall vibe it give and although we were there at the top of the afternoon, I can tell that it gets live as the day goes on. Upon looking at the menu I felt itwas a little pricey BUT I see why. The portions are huge and we literally could of shared 1 meal. I still have leftovers. Thecustomer services was absolutely amazing! Isaiah was so courteous and his people skills are amazing. Osla! Girl! My husband saidthat Koolaid was beyond the best he has ever had. We enjoyed the garlic noodles with chicken and a side of chicken wings withsweet chili sauce. It is a must visit and we'll worth the cost. I wish I would've went later in the day because it looks likethey turn up! Love it!
I was hesitant to try Trap Kitchen since it has a 3-star rating, but my family wanted to go. I had driven by a few times without realizing it was inside a complex. That night, they were hosting an R&B Paint Night, so it was a bit busy, though the event was in a separate room. We found a booth and I loved that they have different games to play while you wait or eat—things like Connect 4, Jenga, Uno, and more. Ordering is done through two kiosks. I got the catfish, shrimp, fries, and a side of lobster mac and cheese. The wait was extremely long. I even got a text saying my food was ready, but when I went to pick it up, it wasn’t. The cashier apologized and said they were behind, promising to let us know. I was starving! Food kept coming out for others, but not mine. After another 30-40 minute wait, my food finally arrived. The wait wasn’t worth it, but the food was delicious—well, mine at least. My cousin didn’t like the garlic noodles, but the garlic fries were amazing, and the salmon nuggets were good too. Another cousin, whose birthday we were celebrating, ordered the pineapple bowl and loved it. I’m guessing the low rating is mostly due to the long wait, but the food itself is definitely good!
I recently visited Trap Kitchen in Oakland for the first time, having had a wonderful experience at the Portland location, which made me eager to try the Oakland menu. I ordered the garlic noodles with steak and the shrimp and chicken basket. While the portions were ample, I found that the garlic noodles weren't as buttery as those in Portland, and the meat was cut thicker and had less sauce. As someone who enjoys saucy dishes, I was let down to find only packets of ketchup and tartar sauce accompanied my shrimp and chicken. I ordered through DoorDash but couldn't add extra sauce. To make matters worse, the chicken was dry and lacked flavor. Overall, I was quite disappointed with my experience.
The restaurant was just okay. I have a feeling they microwaved the food served in the pineapple bowl. On the bright side, the fried shrimp wings were fantastic! The drinks were strong and generous as well. The atmosphere was pleasant, with local rappers featured on the TV screens. The servers were very friendly. While the prices were somewhat high for the quality, I'm accustomed to spending a little more for good food.
