Love the vibe, quite a wait for our big party which was understandable in Father’s Day. Heavier than I expected for brunch, but has some interesting unique items in the menu. The only complaint is my daughter’s order took really long to arrive and clearly was made in a hurry so the presentation wasn’t as good. View all feedback.
What Jacob Heyerly doesn't like about Kitchen Story:
Overpriced and overrated. Portions are large, but food is not very good. I’ve been a few times in groups and once on my own. OJ is $6 for a very small glass and it’s not fresh. Their “millionaires bacon” is $12 for two strips. Pancakes are below average in taste. Coffee was not good. Eggs have been served cold twice. Not bad, just not not good. 3/5. View all feedback.
The food was delicious and everyone loved the millionaire bacon. It was perfect for the occasion. The wait wasn't very long for a Saturday morning.
Must try the Jjapaguri!! I’ve tried several of their dishes and you really can’t go wrong, everything is delicious! I would recommend adding yourself to their waitlist on the Yelp app in advance and check out the neighboring business and shops while you wait!
I'm from Louisiana and my sister took me here as part of the Bay area tour. The staff is so friendly, the food was tasty and hot and the vibe was so relaxing!
The Oakland branch of Kitchen Story opened in early 2020, and I am delighted it survived our lockdown years so that I could finally visit it last weekend! It’s just as good as the San Francisco locale but in a charming, colorfully decorated two-story building. The patio and first floor have a typical boisterous brunch vibe, but the upper floor was much more relaxed on our visit and boasts a beautiful bar.The Marmalade Morning Sour made for a bright, tangy, yet smooth start with whiskey, marmalade, and sweet and sour mix. Though I am so over dried citrus garnishes, the burst of marmalade orange rinds on the cocktail’s surface delighted me.I opted for the Blackstone Benedict, which comes with one strip of Kitchen Story’s famous thick, sweet spicy Millionaire’s bacon and asparagus, tomato, and poached eggs over ciabatta, topped with hollandaise sauce. While I wish mine were more topped – the hollandaise was sparse – I thought using ciabatta instead of an English muffin was a great choice for texture. My husband enjoyed the Sprout Bibimbap with galbi (beef shortrib) and was impressed by how many veggies were included in that bowl. It comes with a side of rice to add to the dish.My friend opted for the Marnier French toast, a tower held in place by Kitchen Story’s signature dried pasta noodle stakes. She upgraded to the complete meal with an add-on of nicely fried eggs and Millionaire’s bacon. Now for an excuse to return and try their omurice...
