The spaghetti and meatballs and the bistro ravioli were delicious! The complimentary bread and olive oil were also great. We really liked the garlicky oil. Highly recommend eating here! View all feedback.
What Kristen I doesn't like about Filippos:
Such small portions I thought I accidentally ordered 2 children's meals. Ordered through UberEats. I ordered the gemelli pasta with a garden salad (pictured) for $13.50! Also ordered spaghetti and meatballs with garden salad (not pictured) that was $16.50 that came with only 2 tiny meatballs. Both dishes came in the same size container in the picture. The pasta here is flippin' deeeeelicious! Been here twice for lunch so far and have been blown away both times. One of my favorite Italian restaurants is located right across the street, but I ain't gonna lie... it's lookin' like some real stiff competition for them right now. FILIPPO'S! Why oh why have I passed you by for so long?! You are both quality and quantity. This is the best Italian lunch fare that you're gonna find in this area. The lunch specials are ridiculous! A filling portion of pasta, salad (or soup), and toasted bread for less than $15 in lil' Ol' Rockidge? Get out of town! No, no, no wait... get back INTO town and try this beauty out because you won't be disappointed. I first tried Filippo's a little over a month ago and was pleasantly surprised! The space is small but bright and very inviting. The entire staff is friendly and operates as if they were a family. The atmosphere is extremely homey and the beautiful food aromas surround the room as the kitchen is right next to the dining room. Filippo's has been around for almost 30 years! They've gotta be doing something right to still be around creating magical dishes like this, especially in an area where restaurants are frequently opening and closing. During my first visit, I ordered their seafood linguine with a Caesar salad. It was a total love TKO from start to finish! I was surprised to even see a meal of this stature on their LUNCH menu! Please, please, don't ever take it away! I would be so heartbroken. The seafood linguine was not only esthetically pleasing; it was bursting with so much immense flavor that my poor little mouth could barely take it! It was the perfect marriage of an array of fresh seafood mixed in an insatiable white wine-marinara sauce over tender linguine noodles. BAM! Your girl got knocked OUT by this dish. Came back again a second time last week, and got knocked out AGAIN by their mouthwatering Bistro ravioli! Their ravioli is a house favorite and features red pepper pasta stuffed with red chard, sweet onion and parmigiano in a balsamic cream sauce topped with breadcrumbs and Grana Padano! Damn Filippo's! You really know how to pack a mean punch with that delicious food of yours, now don't you? I was afraid that I wouldn't like the sweetness of the onions in this dish, but they really came all the way through on this. Filippo's is quickly becoming a regular occurrence for me now. I have yet to try them for dinner. However, if their lunch is any indication of how amazing their dinner will be, then I already know that I will love it to pieces. Here's to many more pasta filled excursions at Filippo's in the future!

Also ordered spaghetti and meatballs with garden salad (not pictured) that was $16.50 that came with only 2 tiny meatballs. Both dishes came in the same size container in the picture. Pasta is the cheapest thing to make so I figured I'd get a good portion at these prices. This is completely ridiculous! And to add insult to injury, the food was just...okay. Bare minimum seasonings. Awfully dry pasta. The chicken in the gemelli was completely over cooked. This'll teach us to order out instead of making food ourselves. In a word: Wack.
Quick summary: Lunch set is reasonable and very filling A few minutes walk from the Rockridge BART station Attentive staff We visited Rockridge in the late morning to have brunch, and after some early researching we decided to eat here. I liked the idea of a lunch special with a set of soup or a salad. The restaurant opens thirty minutes before noon. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and small. There are about eight or so tables and chairs, and mostly fit between two to four guests. After taking a seat, we ordered three of the lunch sets with different main dishes: a panini, a penne, and the ravioli. The time for the dish to arrive felt around fifteen minutes, but I think it was because I was growing hungry that time crept on slowly. I ordered the penne with the Italian sausage, and it was very delicious! The penne's pasta texture was perfect and al dente. It was a good chewiness since the sausage and sauce were softer textures. I really enjoyed the mushrooms that were in this dish. They were soft and also chewy, and each mushroom had flavor. The soup has a great fresh taste. It also has a mixture of various textures such as zucchini, beans, and carrots. I think the soup changes daily, since the lunch set doesn't specify what type of soup it will be. What I was most pleased of is that I was very full. Looks is deceiving in this case! I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch time here, and I would like to return here again the close future to try their other pasta dishes.
I hope this restaurant doesn't close : Their bread and herbed oil appetizer is the best I've ever had. I've tried to recreate the dipping oil at home and it never works! Theirs is amazing! The pasta is fresh and full of authentic flavor! I am Italian and highly approve of everything I've tried on the menu!!
