the cheese balls are amazing and the best part of the experience. they seem to have young kids running the place so it’s a bit disorganized. we had to ask about our drink order because it never came out. the sandwich was very good. What Jose Maria Urdaneta Azuero doesn't like about Mulata Kitchen Coffee:
Like someone else said: they have a bunch of kids running the place. They ran out of chicken but nobody told us, until we asked 30 minutes later where was our food. Aside from that, the food is really good. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2 View all feedback.
The coffee is strong, and there are excellent drink options. The menu features a delightful Portuguese/Brazilian twist on the food and other offerings. Overall, I would rate the food as 4, the service as 4, and the atmosphere as 4.
I enjoyed sitting at a high-top table by the window, where I could watch people strolling by and observe others sitting on the park benches across the street. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, though the outdoor area is uncovered, which might make it less appealing during Chicago's colder seasons. In the photos I shared, you can see that I ordered the Meatloaf sandwich. It was a standard burger—nothing particularly fancy—but still quite tasty. On another visit, I tried the Mulata Bella sandwich, which includes eggplant, portobello mushrooms, cheese, and arugula, and it was also delicious. Additionally, there is free Wi-Fi available and soft background music, making it a relaxing environment for journaling or getting some work done on your computer. During my visit, there was a lunch rush around noon when many students from a nearby school came in for lunch but they left fairly quickly, leaving me to enjoy the ambiance with just a few other patrons. I definitely recommend this charming spot!
This is a lovely coffee and snack spot located at the corner of Oak Park Avenue and Lake Street in Oak Park. They offer a wide variety of coffee, including both classic favorites and some unique options that you won't find elsewhere. There are also a few snack choices available. It's a great place to relax and catch up with friends or family. While there is outdoor seating available on the street, it can be a bit noisy, and pedestrians walk right by. Parking in the area can be challenging due to the limited street parking spaces. Overall, it’s a nice place for dining in.
Mulata is an absolute gem in the Chicago area and a true treasure in Oak Park! I can't help but give them 5 stars because they truly deserve it. The chicken empanadas are simply incredible—so moist and bursting with flavor. As a Brazilian expat, the taste instantly transports me back to the flavors of my homeland. But it doesn't stop with the empanadas; the Bobo, PF, and Feijoada are all delicious, and I can honestly say I've never had a meal here that wasn’t outstanding. The food offers a delightful journey through Brazilian cuisine, and it's clear that the chefs pour their heart and soul into each dish. And let's not forget the desserts—they are out of this world! Each visit is a wonderful experience for the taste buds, and Mulata is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic taste of Brazil in Chicago. Thank you, Cristiane, for bringing a piece of our homeland to the Windy City. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Obrigado! Here's a picture from when I catered from them for a birthday party, which was a huge success.
