Absolutely beautiful! I am a veggie and it was the best food I'd ever had! Also best won ton soup I have ever had (including before I went veggie). Service could be slightly better but to be honest I couldn't care less! View all feedback.
What Kamryn Cartwright doesn't like about Sri Melaka Vegetarian:
Had a bad experience. Went there for the buffett for Sunday lunch. But the buffett was not available and was told would be served from the kitchen, which we thought was the same thing. They did not give us any menu, but asked if we want spicy or not.
Then we had three dishes in our table, spinach, squid and duck. The food was soaking in oil and not appetising and we hate spinach. Then the rude shock came when we went... View all feedback.
Probably the worst Gado Gado I have ever been served anywhere in the world. It consisted of nothing more than a small bowl of soggy bean sprouts along with a
These guys are the same guys who run the lotus restaurant and the Vegetarian market next door.
Sambal squid and sambal long beans. Very tasty and large portions. You wouldn't be able to tell if you didn't know it's a vegetarian restaurant!
Sri Melaka is a mix of Malaysian Chinese style cuisine and vegetarian goodness. The menu is vegetarian, however, for all the meat eaters and vegetable haters, do not allow this to deter you, as the food is delicious! The restaurant uses what is called 'mock' meat, most likely made from soy, but it is 100% enjoyable and tastes like the real thing (trust me, I made the mistake of believing I just ate real fish on my first visit). The pricing is decent and the portions are quite good for what you are paying. For those that eat a lot, I would recommend ordering three dishes between two people. The service is quite good with the usually younger waiters quick to take your order and are quite attentive and friendly. A lot of reviews have negatively mentioned the old lady (to my belief is the owner), but she is truly quite nice as long as you are polite and understanding of the older generation. She sometimes may try to order for you, however, her recommendations are actually some of the restaurants best dishes, and you can just politely reiterate what you want instead. No drama! The inside of the restaurant is quite nice and spacious and the restaurant itself is rarely filled. There is no set parking, and being located in Northbridge, it is may be difficult to find parking close to restaurant (especially on weekends). RECOMMENDATIONS: I have three recommendations if you visit, all are truly exceptionally tasty and actually fall in the category of some of my favourite food in Perth. 1. Melaka Sambal Deep Fried Fish - $22 (Ask for less spicy if you can't handle chilli) 2. Deep fried oyster mushroom with curry leaves ~$15 3. Chicken Kapitan with Coconut Rice ~$15 TIPS 1. If you want coconut rice, you have to come early in the day (probably for lunch) as they only make one batch, and it runs out quick!
