What Alfonso Beahan doesn't like about Baby Mammoth:
Cool little bar to have drinks and catch up with friends, my cocktail was pretty tasty and there was a good variety of beers. I also liked how it was table service. However we were a little let down with the food. We ordered a few small things to snack on, the pulled pork donut didn't quite cut it, I think there might have been fennel in it which clashed the flavours for me and the donut seemed flavourless and overco... Had a brilliant Canada Day lunch at this awesome little bar/restaurant. They have Poutine on the regular menu but expanded it to four different types, along with lots of other things bacon and maple related. Yum food, great staff and cosy atmosphere. Perfect, eh?
Have been here now a couple of times, including dinner. This weekend I went back for a Saturday lunch before a movie at Paradiso. Stepped in at 12 noon and was their first customer for the day. Was greeted and told to go to any table. Took one near the window and the owner came with the menu and tap water. I decided to go with a South African white wine, and fried chicken with chakalaka slaw. Drink came out quickly with food taking a little while. When it arrived it was nicely presented and nice and hot. Chicken was crispy with succulent and moist flesh. Love the spicy sauce and the nice tang of the slaw. A perfect combination with the wine. Previous dinner was also wonderful. Friendly service, good food with flavours you won’t find anywhere else and good choice of drinks.
Fried chicken offers a refreshing take on what spices will carry in breading. Also a strong selection of beers. (If they have more than 2 stouts than its a plus from me) recommended.
Always a great place to drop by, whether it's just for a drink or to grab a meal. Staff are super friendly and easy to get along with and the food is always amazing!
Have been wanting to try this place for a while now as we keep walking by this place. Made a reservation for a weeknight but it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. We ordered some dishes from the 'peckish' menu. The poutine fries, house made cheese curds and gravy; and the pulled pork donut with beer cheese sauce and jalapeño slaw. Both were quite tasty. From the 'bunny chow' menu we ordered the mutton curry with mango pickled chutney and house made brioche (choosing the spice level hot) and the lentil curry with pickled cauliflower, cashews and house made brioche (spice level hot). Both dishes were really tasty. They weren't as spicy as I'd thought it would be but still very tasty. The brioche was so soft and matched well with the dish. We also ordered the roasted broccoli with sesame and hummus, it was ok. The fried chicken with chakalaka slaw was delicious. The chicken was crunchy and cooked perfectly. Would come back to try more of their dishes. Only thing that disappointed me was that there was no mocktails. But the food made up for it.
