Welcome to The Lamplighter Freehouse, Northampton’s charming independent backstreet pub steeped in history since 1877. Renowned for our warm, friendly staff and an excellent range of real ales, ciders, and craft beers, we take pride in supporting local independent businesses throughout our offerings. At The Lamplighter, you’ll enjoy delicious home-cooked meals featuring classic pub favourites, hearty Sunday roasts, and a special monthly Vegan Tapas Night on the first Tuesday of every month. There’s always something happening here—whether it’s our lively Wednesday pub quiz, discounted burgers on Thursdays, or DJs and live music filling the weekends. Our garden is a sunny haven during the summer months and a perfect place to unwind, while the covered and heated areas keep things cosy when the temperatures dip. Originally known as The Overstone Arms, the pub was renamed The Lamplighter in 1989. Looking ahead, we’re excited to celebrate 150 years as a beloved neighbourhood pub in 2027, right at the heart of the local community. We can’t wait to share this milestone with all of you.

Great little pub. The brisket burger was excellent. Chunky chips were cooked perfectly. The desserts were so delicious and really just hit the spot after a great meal. Really reasonably priced and the atmosphere is awesome. Best thing was the staff though, great lads, very friendly and excellent service. Definitely recommend. I know its a small pub which means small menu but maybe some more staple foods like steak would be a great addition. Will definitely be returning. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Wait time: No wait

A very quaint pub, with a lovely atmosphere. When we went in the staff didn’t seem to happy to be there but after the change of staff things brightened up a bit. Drinks were pricier than some other places but still worth a stop off. Price per person: £10–20 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
