We visited yesterday after exploring 78 Derngate, which was a lovely way to end our tour. We had lunch in the Dining Room and enjoyed excellent food and great service. The quality of the food was exceptional. The only downside was that the menu choices were different from what was listed on the website, so my husband was a bit disappointed that he couldn't have the gammon ham he had been looking forward to. What hlw1987 doesn't like about The Dining Room:
The dining room felt like a disused back room in someone 's house; clean enough but not particularly inviting. The service was ok; the waitress was pleasant but we had to ask for extra drinks rather than being offered. Sandwiches were removed to make way for the deserts and we assumed they 'd be boxed up but unfortunately not. Remaining cakes we had to ask for them to be boxed up. The food was rather average; sandwic... View all feedback.
We were given a lovely table in the window for our Afternoon Tea voucher booking overlooking the garden and park opposite. The waitress was very nice and was on hand throughout our visit to top up the bottomless Tea and check we were happy with the food. The first tier arrived comprising of small sandwiches, cheese scones and mini quiche. The bitesize sandwiches were a little disappointing and could do with being of a more standard size. The second tier arrived and was more impressive with two large plain scones, clotted cream (Cornish potted version) and a huge serving of strawberry jam. Accompanying the scones was a selection of lovely fresh cakes and tarts which made up for the sandwiches previously. Having not been here for a number of years it was a nice to visit again and was topped off with a cold glass of prosecco we hadn't realised was included with our voucher.
Visited with friends this afternoon. Excellent afternoon tea of the best quality. Friendly attentive staff and lovely ambience make sure you visit
Wonderful afternoon tea on Easter Sunday celebrating my parents’ golden wedding anniversary. The food was delicious with a wide range of sandwiches and cakes, and the service was excellent. The owners catered for the gluten free members of our family perfectly there was no fuss and the gluten free food was yummy. I would highly recommended The Dining Room for any special occasion, as well as a quick coffee and cake.
My family celebrated my Mums 80th birthday here today. It’s my favourite place in Northampton for afternoon tea and extremely good value. The food is excellent and there’s always some left over to take home. As a vegan the selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes offered are amazing everyone else really enjoyed there’s too. Rachael always answered my emails promptly when organising the booking. I highly recommend a visit.
Had afternoon tea which was excellent lots of food savoury served first on tiered stand nice selection not just the usual sandwiches them another tiered stand brought out of cakes and scones unlimited tea. Down side is the room is looking very tired shame when they spent all that money on the building extension they didn’t referb the tea room really let’s it down and spoils what otherwise would be a lovely afternoon tea
