I never thought an island could be described as magical or capable of providing a spiritual experience, but Bardsley Island truly delivers on both fronts. There was a moment when I felt completely at peace, captivated by the beauty and tranquility of the island. The smiling faces of the locals were welcoming, the seals entertained us with their curious behavior, and the puffins were simply breathtaking. It's an incre... View all feedback.
More amazing place, was for a few days and happy with the weather. in nant, as in a national trusted house. fire them in the lounge the only heat in the night, hot water bottles and cover for warm in the rooms. there is a compost outside loo not as bad as it sounds. gas stove and solar-powered refrigerator. the island is beautiful, peaceful with whales, smiling and all kinds of birds. if they like to walk to foot, they will love to explore the island with its mountains, beaches, chappel, lighthouse, cliffs. no mobile signal on most of the island, one of the reasons I went, can't get me work. the people who look at the island are all really beautiful and clearly take care of much for them, they will be in good hands over there.
I was there with my late Mum, Maureen Lucey 2 years ago just for a day when we stayed at the Catholic Church in Abersoch for a week. Thwarted by the stony path pushing Mum in a wheelchair the kind resident came with her John Deere mini truck took us from the cafe to the site of the monastery. Then returned us by the bay of seals to the ferry. Everyone was very kind and she loved every minute of it. Thank you
Bardesy Island offers a completely different approach to a family holiday. Firstly, there is generally no electric on the Island, bar a few buildings. Secondly the toilets are in outhouses, this provides a very unique experience. Travelling to the Island there for is like stepping back in time. No one locks doors on the island, people converse with each other and even the seals like to say hello at midnight. The views around the island are incredible and if Nature, Astro photography is your thing, then you'll instantly fall in love. Included in the review are some astro shots of the Milky Way. Is Bardsey for everyone? Of course not, you must accept that there are limitations. There is sheep poo everywhere, so if you don't want to get your pradas dirty, then Bardsey may not be the place for you. However if you are willing to forego some of the modern conveniences, then you'll be in for a pleasant surprise. So why 4 stars? Well, I loved it for my perspective I'd give it 5, but as I am reviewing for the world, Bardsey is not for everyone. But to reiterate if you can forego a few creature comforts you'll truly have a spectacular time.
My visit to Bardsey Island taught me that life is a pilgrimage (pererindod) and I am a pilgrim (pererin). The journey transports one to an ancient island of mystery and magic. I especially loved the ruins of the abbey, the small cafe and shop, and talking learning about Bardsey from Colin. This visit was one of the most transformative experiences in my life.
What an adventure! We had a men's retreat here over the weekend. Amazing and the ferry and the staff were so helpful. You will never forget a visit here.
