Loved it!. I remember going to kareoke across the street and wanting to try this place, but it was pretty empty inside so we decided against it. BIG MISTAKE! Got the sweet and spicy deep fried chicken and spicy stir fried squid (i think it was called? and i cannot be more satisfied. definitely going back. View all feedback.
What T D doesn't like about Ga Hyang Ru:
Came based on the stellar reviews for there Chinese Korean dishes. We ordered the Ja Jang Myun and Jam Bong for dinner. Our noodles were over cooked and a tad too soft. The Jam Bong broth was too sweet for my taste and surprisingly lacked wok aroma. The Ja Jang Myun was average at best.Maybe they had an off day but food was just average. Cute little hole in the wall, favourite black bean noodles in North van, staff are polite and accommodating. Lunch special is on point, so yummy for good

If you like spicy Jam Bong spicy seafood in soup you should really try this place. Extremely tasty soup with not a single drop of oil in it, and the texture of the noodles is amazing. You can order the lunch special with spicy fried chicken as well. Not the cheapest at about $24 but then money well spent as the portion is generous. Service is always with a smile.Parking: Some spots reserved for restaurant parking at the back
The must visit Korean Chinese fusion restaurant in North Van! This place serves the best Jajangmyun (black bean sauce noodle) in town, covering Downtown Vancouver, the Vancouver area, and the North Shore. Their Gan Jajangmyun (stir fried black bean sauce noodle) is a standout, with wok seared onions and other ingredients, adding an extra seared flavor that awakens your tastebuds with every bite. The result is a rich and savory experience that will leave you craving more.Equally enticing is their Jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup), where the wok seared seafood and vegetables infuse the broth with a unique smokiness and depth of taste. The fiery spiciness is beautifully balanced with the umami goodness from the wok fried ingredients, creating a tantalizing symphony of flavors that you won't soon forget. And don't forget to try the Tangsooyook (deep fried pork tenderloin with sweet and sour sauce) it's crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and astonishingly, there's absolutely no undesirable pork smell! Achieving this level of perfection in a pork deep fry dish is a testament to their culinary prowess. Served with a delightful sweet and sour dipping sauce, it's a true culinary delight, worth crossing the Lions Gate bridge and braving the traffic jam for!
This is a truely mixed review. The food was great, but the dining experience needs some improvements. There’s a reason this is a long review, stick with me…The Menu is intimidating for anyone not VERY familiar with Korean food. It looks very expensive, but the portions are very large. Honestly too large. Every single table left with takeaway containers when we dined there. Usually this isn’t an issue but with most menu items starting at $30+ for regular size (big enough for 2 to share and large size for $40+, the menu would benefit from smaller, less expensive portions. This would also make it a bit easier for folks to try some of the more traditional dishes without committing $40 or more for a single dish (without rice .They also have an atrocious alcoholic drinks selection with just Kokanee, Budweiser or Soju. They would really benefit from some craft beers… not hard to find with a craft brewery 2 doors down! The combination of some cheaper menu items (fried chicken or any appetisers for less than $30 please! and some craft beers would be absolutely spectacular. They have a great patio for a summer evening, and there’s so much potential if they made some tweaks to their menu.I had a lot of time to think about this review as we waited over 45 minutes for our only dish (Pork Tang Su Yuk , they forgot our dumpling order, and when I asked for a second serving of rice it took another 5 minutes to come out even though there were no other diners at that point. They must have been busier than usual (although there were a few tables free and all the other tables were also waiting a really long time for service. But after all that, the pork was very fresh, hot and crispy, the sweet and sour style sauce on the side was good, and there were some tasty side pickles. The regular size was enough for 2 hungry people.TL/DR: It took me a long time to finally dine at this longstanding local restaurant, and I hope to go back again if there are some tweaks to the menu sizing and pricing, better drinks on offer, and speedier service.
