Was Angie Garcia at El Ruby Mexican a mag?
The food is good. I ordered the Chile relleno and was not disappointed. The mole is sweet and delicious. They have quite a number of seafood options. I came here with a large group and was served quickly. The waitress was very kind. It got a bit hot inside the place while we were eating but other than that gret. View all feedback.

If you're in Glendale and craving Mexican cuisine, this is one of the rare spots where you can find authentic, high-quality Mexican food. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality offered. It's a small, cozy establishment that has that "hole in the wall" charm. As for the service, they do their best. It seems like they might be tired from working long hours every day, so I’m willing to overlook any shortcomings. You can really appreciate their hard work in bringing you some delicious dishes.
I know it's just French fries, but these are some of the best you can find—locals definitely need to check them out! The owner is a really nice guy, and the staff works wonderfully together, which makes the experience even better. You can really taste why these fries are so special. I asked for hash browns, but since it's a Mexican restaurant and not an American diner, they made me these fries that completely satisfied my craving for hash browns. I know they’re just regular fries, but wow!
Great for Breakfast, lunch or supper,,,Owner and family serve personally and great service I might add…Their Mexican cuisine is out of this world and really good portions Kid-friendliness: Very nice
This family-owned restaurant offers good parking options, although the lot can occasionally be full. The food is excellent and served in generous portions. While the atmosphere could use some improvement, it is clean, and the prices are very reasonable.
Always eat here with my family when we get together. Their avena and caldo my favorite, my husband liked theirs skillets, and my dad big fan of the menudo. Nice friendly feel.. afterward to to El Pavo bakery right next door and take home some sweet Mexican bread.. parking is scarce so get there early or with patience. Parking: Small parking lot. Maybe about 20 cars can fit but it's shared with other restaurants and laundromat.

El Ruby is a longstanding tradition. I remember visiting El Ruby as a young student in the early 1960s when I lived in Southern Glendale. It was a larger restaurant back then, and it served the most delicious salsa fresca I have ever tasted, with hints of garlic, cilantro, and oregano in a sweet, spicy, thick tomato sauce. The tacos deshebrada had tender, flavorful meat with crumbles of excellent cotija cheese. I returned to El Ruby nearly 40 years later to find that the original restaurant was no longer there, replaced by a small strip mall, but El Ruby's was still there. The older lady who owned it said she had worked at the original El Ruby. The salsa had changed over the years, but the taco deshebrada was still just as good. The older lady retired around 2003, so I hope that the new cooks are maintaining the quality. This small restaurant holds a lot of nostalgic value for me, as it was where I first experienced authentic Mexican cuisine. To this day, I have yet to find another northern Mexican restaurant that can compare to the El Ruby of the 1960s.

The Mexican food at this restaurant is delicious! They offer a few egg plates for breakfast and a wide selection of lunch and dinner options. All the dishes were served generously. The carnitas were tender and full of flavor without being greasy. The carnitas sope was particularly amazing! The gordita was thin, which I preferred, and loaded with meat, refried beans, cabbage/lettuce, cheese, and crema. The carne asada was tasty and tender, not dry at all. The chilaquiles had a good level of spice, with a distinct chile flavor rather than tomato. The rice and beans were also flavorful without being overly salty. Additionally, they offer curbside pickup for a convenient grab-and-go lunch or dinner option.
Great delicious tasty and value food served with chips and salsa chips were fresh as well, coming back when in the area
I decided to try this place on a whim and found it to be good, but no where near the best. The table service here is a welcome touch. Please note that you pay after you have eaten, and they only accept cash. There is an ATM on location, but frankly I would be VERY weary of using it expensive fees or worse may be waiting in store. The sauce on my cheese enchiladas was excellent, it had a great depth of flavor that was slightly spicy but not overpowering. I thought the amount of cheese was just right, although the overall size of the enchiladas is not too big. The rice on the other hand was a bit of a letdown. There was nothing off putting about it, but it just tasted sort of bland. The beans were a bit better, but still had my yearning for more flavor. As with all of these small Mexican restaurants the mini salad they add is a nice touch but absolutely nothing to write home about, I noted several large pieces of lettuce that were from the base of the lettuce (that white, hard bit) which were totally inedible. The drink selection here features many glass bottles varieties of Mexican favorites, such as Coca Cola and Jarritos. Overall it was nothing special, but was good enough to satisfy a hungry individual. I might be inclined at a later date to give El Ruby one more chance to impress me. Also, the menu on the wall is in Spanish, but has pictures to help you decide what you want if Spanish is not your forte.
