Nigel's Good Food - North Charleston

We decided to order delivery after hearing great reviews about the classic Southern home cooking at this restaurant. While I plan to dine in and update my review later, I will discuss our delivery experience for now. The chicken-fried steak was excellent - it had a delicious gravy and the potatoes had a nice touch of skin to show they were homemade. They were creamy, buttery, and just perfect. The macaroni and cheese was better than most but not quite as good as homemade. I missed the crispy cheese topping that I love. The sauce had a tangy flavor with real Cheddar and quality cheeses, not just from a can. It was good, but not outstanding. Unfortunately, the red rice was a disappointment. It seemed to be the last of the batch and was almost burnt and completely dried out. The smoked sausage was disappointing as well - it was all smoke, no actual sausage. The rice was so dry that it separated into individual pieces. Despite being a generous portion, it wasn't enjoyable. On a positive note, the Geechie wings were spicy-sweet, sticky, and well-cooked. The lemon tea had a fantastic tangy flavor and is a must-order. Together, they made a perfect lunch.

The mac 'n' cheese was above average, although it lacked the cheesy crust we love from homemade trays. The tangy Cheddar sauce was made with quality cheeses, not canned ones. While the portions were generous, more does not always mean better. However, the Geechie wings were a highlight with their spicy-sweet, sticky, and well-cooked sauce. I am writing this review as I sit here after enjoying the Geechee wings. I am feeling a bit sad that the meal is over. My son is currently working on finishing the large sides that came with his meal. We are very pleased that we decided to stop by this restaurant. The food was served promptly, hot, and crispy, and the service was excellent. Jennifer made us feel welcomed and appreciated. I would love to come back and try everything on the menu. Overall, our dining experience was great.

This restaurant is a hidden gem! I can't stop thinking about the pork chops and I think they must add something addictive to the banana pudding because I can't get enough of it!

The food that once was delicious is not the same anymore. After being away for a few months, we returned to find that our favorite fried pork chop dinner has been replaced with pork jerky. Instead of the three juicy and perfectly fried pork chops we used to enjoy, we were served three small pieces of pork jerky tonight. It seems that the restaurant has sacrificed good food for higher profits. They should have maintained the deliciousness and quality of their dishes and increased the price instead. I am disappointed and will not be returning.
