My favorite German place on LI! This place is great. Staff are all friendly and make you feel like family. I don't think the decor has changed since the 80s, but it's so classic and very clean. And the food is out when this world. I went with the sausage plate with potato pancakes. You get a total of 3 sausages. A pig, a beef. All a good size with distinctly different taste. The pig was my favorite with a little smokey taste. The potato pancakes were beautiful and crispy. They had a soft inside and were the best with a spoon of apples on the top. I also tried the Jagerschnitzel. That was probably my favorite Jagerschnitzel I ever had in a restaurant. It is veal, not pork, and between them cook it perfectly and the taste of mushroom sauce, I was in love. For the desert I went with a peach of Melba. I think it was Häagen-dazs ice cream, a freshly cut peach on top, and a layer of raspberry jam. Great way to finish the meal.
Classical German, family-owned and family has been visiting for generations. My grandfather's favorite restaurant! Consistent, old-fashioned and excellent service every time.
Excellent Brezel. Great beers and good atmosphere. I take the star away from some German institutions in the five districts. The Goulash, while the tendering requires a little seasonal. The sparrow simply comes naked and boiled, a little salt or something would be nice.
Awesome authentic German restaurant. The inside looks like you are in a German restaurant in Bavarian. The food is the best German food in NY. Chicken jaegerschintzel is AWESOME the best I ever had! The sauerkraut, red cabbage, bratwurst appetizer, mixed salad, potato pancakes (the list keeps going) are amazing. If you love authentic German food then you should enjoy a delicious meal at the Oak Chalet, you won’t be disappointed! Did I mention they have German beer?????
