What Kaden Gutmann doesn't like about Satchmo Café:
We came here for breakfast and although the service was slow, the food was lovely - and very importantly - the coffee great. Not sure about the seating arrangements - very on top of your neighbour - and there's a very long table which I guess for a family gathering is ok but we prefer our own table. Very funky with a music theme - different! View all feedback.
The first time Satchmo’s opened, I used to order their bagels regularly because I lived nearby and loved them. The bagels were always fresh and delicious. It had been a while since I had visited, as I had moved away. Recently, I was in the area with my partner so we decided to stop for breakfast. We ordered iced coffee, chai tea, a smoked salmon bagel, and pancakes (forgot the full name). The iced coffee was bitter and served in a small glass that wasn't enough to satisfy anyone's thirst. The chai tea was average, nothing special. The smoked salmon bagel seemed old, with soggy dough and dry salmon edges. The pancakes were a small portion, with the banana cooked with its skin on, which was inconvenient. The bill was over $40, leaving us feeling unsatisfied, hungry, and thirsty. I don't understand why this place is so popular, as you're essentially paying to look like a hipster at a trendy café with subpar food, drinks, and service.

If you're looking to pay to appear like a hipster in a trendy cafe, this may be the place for you, but don't expect great food or service.
I have been drooling over Instagram for months and finally made the pilgrimage from way South of Perth to take my husband out for his bday. We had a great Brunch fried chicken bagel shared with my daughter)and Gumbo washed down with a ****...Mary and a Gin and Apple juice . A vanilla milkshake for our daughter was super tasty well done something I struggle ordering out for the kids as most places make it too warm and too weak but this was delicious. The fried chicken bagels was moist and cooked to perfection along with the slaw and chipotle sauce it made the bagel Devine I am not a fan of Swiss cheese but hardly tasted it so win). Next time I have it I will ask for no Swiss Gumbo was lovely hubby enjoyed this dish and loved the corn bread . We had cinnamon Babka take away as we gave someone else our table .. babka was good next time I will enjoy in house and maybe slightly warmed . Staff were lovely attentive and efficient We will be back when we are up in the big smoke again
The iced coffee was served in a small glass and was very bitter. The chai tea was average and nothing special. The smoked salmon bagel tasted like it had been sitting for a few days, with soggy dough and dried out salmon. The pancakes were also a small portion, with cooked banana still in its skin for a “hipster” look, which was just inconvenient. Our bill came out to over $40, and we felt like we were ripped off, hungry, and thirsty. I cannot understand why this place is so popular despite the subpar food, drinks, and service. In conclusion, you’re paying to look like a hipster at a trendy café with terrible food and service.
Have been to Satchmo half a dozen or so times now and the food, staff and atmosphere have always been amazing I should try more of the menu But I can’t go past the fried chicken bagel and always take home a peanut butter brownie...Yum !
