Canvas Social Cuisine - Norfolk

I traveled for work and enjoyed trying out different black-owned restaurants that I discovered on TikTok. The food at Eat was absolutely amazing, with beautiful presentation and delicious flavors. The drinks were good, I tried the big teeschopf. The atmosphere was enhanced by the upbeat music playing in the background.

The potential for canvas to be a great restaurant is evident, but it falls short due to issues with management and cleanliness. The dust on the bar and dirty kitchen and floors were off-putting. After seeing the lack of cleanliness, I did not feel comfortable trying the hookah. The service was slow and it took an hour to receive my food. Despite this, the music playlist was enjoyable. Unfortunately, my drink was not to my liking and had to be sent back. The food eventually arrived and while the mac and cheese was good, the krabbe cameron was fishy and the chicken lacked seasoning. Overall, I would recommend that canvas closes temporarily for a deep clean, hires more kitchen staff, and improves their service.

This restaurant definitely has potential. The ambiance, vibe, and overall scene are beautiful. The DJ was fantastic! However, the service was absolutely terrible. I hope it was just a one-time thing, but the servers seemed more focused on socializing than attending to the customers waiting for a table. The food arrived 45 minutes late and was lukewarm and missing items. I ordered a mango mimosa but received a pineapple one instead. When I asked for it to be corrected, I was told, "the bartender has already fixed it" with a chuckle. It was a bit chaotic. Hopefully, they can improve.

The food was worth the hour waiting. the garnel and grits were seasoned for perfection. the mood was relaxed with good music. the personal seemed friendly. the only complaint I would have is that there was a lot of cellulose in our carafe strawberry mango mosaic.

Man the drinks are amazing and I Loved ? My Chicken and Waffles, OMG. Great Service too.
